Bad Inventions. Machine guns, slums, prisons, child labor, bad hygiene, the Black Plague, concentration camps, you name it. If it hurts people, the British probably came up with it.

Slums: Is it even possible to invent a slum?

Bad Hygene? :rotfl:

Black Plague: Someone needs to do their research....

Everyone has suffered the consequences of the Evil Empire. We proposed to distribute the reparations monies equally between all the people of the world. Dividing a £31 trillion settlement between 6.5 billion people gives us roughly £4,770 or $8,350 for every man, woman, and child on earth. It's far from enough, but it's a start."

Cool!
I have a wife and 2 kids. So that makes roughly 19.080 British pounds sterling.
Enough for me and my family, as a start, if you ask me.

Those invoved have been trying the same thing in the US over slavery.
I have never owned any human being and I don't know anyone who has.
More re-distribution of wealth and buying the vote. I despise these people.

I dont agree with all of it, but if you look at the british empire days they practically went sailing around trying and most case succeeding in colonising every continnent bent on we natives should live the british way - New Zealand is one such country, Australia is another we live under british law or taken their laws. But having said that Maoris did the same before the Maori there were people in this land called the Mori-hori which most Maoris refuse to accept they ever existed otherwise they cannot say we were the first on this land therefore we have all land rights. Shssh you didn't hear this from kiwi but Mori Hori WERE the first. We conquered and wiped out all but a few and sent them off to an island to live on.
Also i always tell those pro NZ only movements who tend to blame everything thats british that we were very lucky to be invaded by the british they at least had morals and let us live alongside them. If we were invaded by the White South Africans whom by history tried to beat the british here, we would of all being either wiped out ( their was less than 50 thousand of us back then) by them or become slaves under a SA NZ apartied rule.

Anyways we get back our revenge when we beat england in rugby :p

Sorry Steed no offense :)

Perhaps if the events of 1588 had gone the other way we could easily blame the Spanish. History is a funny thing.

Under the careless watch Britain's elite, the Industrial Revolution got off to a horrible start, the consequences of which have continued to ring down through the centuries. The melting of the polar icecaps, the loss of countless plants and animal species, and the imperiled condition of the human race on a planet made poisonous by misapplied technology are all a consequence of British negligence and hunger to accumulate wealth at any cost.

Bollocks. Was there some set of regulations tacked up somewhere in 1780 on how to properly conduct an industrial revolution? People always want to judge the past by todays high standards. Unfortunately evolution is painfully and messy. Nobody even knew they were going through an industrial revolution back then or called it that until it was half over...and industralization wasn't any prettier in France or Prussia or the USA. As for the colonizing the less-developed world somebody was going do it. Spain and Portugal were the ones who started the ball rolling. Certainly Russia didn't end up sprawling across the northern half of Asia because the natives there loved the taste of vodka.

Although most of this vast Siberian expanse was aquired from primitive nomadic people, the Amur was annexed from China and was returned by the Treaty of Nerchinsk in 1689.

Right, but how do you know that these people didn't simply like vodka?

SUBMAN1 03-02-07 09:35 PM

OK - Don't let me point out the obvious or anything, but how the hell are we supposed to move forward toward the future if we are all stuck worrying about not only what happened in the past and how we can right a wrong from 1000 years ago, but on top of that, we are all worried about how we might offend the guy next to us for simply stating how you feel about a subject?

Another example - I think Italy has some big coughing up to do if the British have to cough up like this since I kind of think that Rome stepped on all our toes at one point in time

PC'ness combined with living in the past is the world we live in today. To me, I think it is the end of the world since it will take an overthrow of our civilization to put it back on track. Or at least a major upset. Maybe Islam is going to make that purpose known and though we will crush it eventually, it will upset things well enough to make everyone quit being such babies. Best analogy I can think of right there.

-S

PS. I do have a solution to the worlds problems by the way - it can go like this - all societies stepped on each other toes at some point in time, so I think they all owe each other $37 Trillion. Everyone pay up and lets get on with life. Oh! Hey! Looks like everyone is paid up since they all owe each other the same amount! Wow! Imagine that! All prolems solved. Done. Next please!?

Having listened to horror stories from Russian immigrants about chronic drunkenness I don't know how anyone loves vodka....but I guess you can say that about any national drink.

Subman1 is right. Let's blame the Romans for inventing Vino! Actually I think it predates even them.

It does, especially once you remember the story of Odysseus, who felled the cyclops with wine in The Odyssey.
