FRAPS, GWX and Hi Res fix CTD's
I have GWX installed and I have just added the d3d9.dll his res fix and FRAPS screen capture utility. But for some reason when I try to capture a screenie I get sent to the desktop with XP's famous "send a report" message.
Is there a fix for this? Or is there another screen capture utility that works other than FRAPS? |
FRAPS and the res fix dont match, thats why I dont use the res fix.
|
Try YankeeClipper3, a free clipboard extender.
Screenshots get added simply by using the printscreen-key. It can keep a history of pretty much everything you can copy...even after rebooting. |
Thanks! I will give it a try
|
I love it...been using it for years.

Really? I got ctd every time I tried to capture video with GW1.1a.
|
Screenshots were okay - not sure about video though, I'm not into that sort of thing with SH3.
|
Oh, screenshots worked fine with GW1.1a, yes. I havent tried it with GWX, though.
:rotfl:So just disregard all my posts so far. |
No worries;)
BTW I can't seem to suss out Yankee Cipper for some reason, I keep pressing the prtscn key and I'm not getting any of the captures:hmm: |

Ctl-F11 still takes screens in 1024x768 though. In higher res it takes a cutout from the center.
The dll fix has an inbuilt screenshot function however. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it. Just press printscreen, and it will create a tga screenshot, no need for external software. |
the only thing to watch for with the .TGA screenshots is their size. Had a shock when I foudn a hundred or so 7.5MB files sitting in the screenshot directory.
Convert them to .JPG when you finish and ditch the .TGA's or you will eat your hard drive in short order. |

L-click on it once, to bring up the window. On the left, select the "all formats" option...this will show all your copy (text, pictures, urls) in the History-section. To edit your screenshot, select the bmp, and hit Ctrl+L. This will load it into your preferred image-viewer - like Irfan View. I run SH3/GWX at 1024x768, though...might be the difference. I particularly like YC3's "shoot"-option...great for pasting text and urls in a row. |
FRAPS video and the hig res fix wont work, because FRAPS takes the resolution info from the game as it starts, but at the same time the fix changes the resolution and FRAPS doesnt register it. So, when you try to capture video, FRAPS thinks itīs 1024 x 768, but instead itīs something else, so FRAPS goes cuckoo and getīs sent to mental hospital.

The problem with the Ctrl+F11 command and the TGA file is that the end result is half a picture. The top half looks like a checker board while the bottom half is the correct picture. I wish I had a picture I could post to explain this better.
I'm not sure if there is a work around with this and I'm not that good with PhotoShop. |

Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to set the program up or is there another button to use for taking screen captures? |
You could try GrabClipSave. It sits in the system tray an monitors your clipboard, saving your clips to a folder of your choice as .bmp, .jpg or .png files. Last version is 1.4.0.35, as far as I know. Lots of options.

This is getting very annoying - so much so I'm tempted to stuff the hi res fix altogether. |
Hmm, yes I get the same, tried nonags.com and download.com. Itīs a pitty, Iīve used it for years and the only game it has not worked with for me is Colin 5. But there Fraps works fine. I have the exe file, 890 kb...:hmm:
