The Mad Kpt Patrol Logs (very pic heavy)
Well i have final found time to play on my career install of GWX. I have been neglected my career while i have been having a ball playing many Mp games.
My First patrol went well sinking just over 20,000t and i had three hit on the HMS Rodney. But alas the DD's detected me and held me down why the convoy made good there escape. I tryed for 3 days to find the convoy again with no luck what so ever. My card is a ATI Saphire X850 256mgb. PCI Express. The sub skin is one of Fubars masterpices. which you can find out more about on this thread. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=88849 |

Well here is the patrol report of the second War patrol of U-49.
We were waved off at the pier by the Flotilla Commander and other high rankers. When we had only just left the pier i noticed that the Blucher had layed anchor during the night in port. http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5494/gwxcar5sq5.jpg We had unaventfull passage through the Kiel canal and and returned the hellos and waves of the people of Brunstbuttle as we clear the canal in to open water. http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/7825/gwxcar6ch5.jpg Not long after breaking out into open water we spotted some locals out on a pleasure cruise. My number one jokingly said we should give the deck gun crew something to shoot. But we both knew the deck gun crew would have there fun in time. http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5526/gwxcar7ja0.jpg After clear the channel that leads to the Canal we put the enigines to ahead one third and went through the normal drills to keep the men fresh and on the ball. Five days after leaving kiel we were just North West of Lerwick and it was late evening and we were conducting are hourly hyderphone check when i got the call that we had a sound contact moving in we altered course to what should give us our best chance of shot should i be an enemy ship. Just after 02.00am we up the scope and there just under 1000m of our bow was a large british merchant. A nice juicey target to get the patrol off to a great start. At a range of 900m we let lose with 2 torps everyone had there fingers crossed that the attck would be sucessful. Then right on time expolsion followed by another YESS to hits right amidships the ship stops dead in the water. She starts to sink by the bow then is slips under the waves and is gone. http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/142/gwxcar8se2.jpg http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/5950/gwxcar9bk2.jpg After the sinking of the large Merchant we continued on our course to our patrol grid of AM 76, For the next 5 days we did not see another ship or even pick up any contacts on the hyderphone. But we did play crash dive games with the enemy planes that seem to be hunting for us after the sinking of there ship. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5050/gwxcar12jf8.jpg The days of no contact changed on the 9th of Nov when we were on are hyderphone check we picked up a faint contact at a constaint distance. We surfaced at once and ran off on a interseption course after 2 hours at high speed the look outs spotted smoke on the hirszon. We closed into a range of 2000m and open fire on a british small merchant, The deck gun crew went to work and in the early morining they sunk the second ship of the patrol with just over 20 shells. http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/6160/gwxcar10te6.jpg http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/4852/gwxcar11bh6.jpg After the sinking it was back on our original couse to our patrol grid we had been on course for three days after are last sinking without sighting so much a fish , http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/1925/gwxcar13ka7.jpg When we pick up yet another sound contact we surfaced and set off on a course to find the contact it turned out to be yet another British small Merchant, we closed the gap to her to around 1200m then opened up with the deck gun in worsening weather. After and 30min action the deck gun crew had her heading to the bottom this was turning into a good patrol. http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/4569/gwxcar14ck3.jpg http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/766/gwxcar15jt2.jpg After the sinking it was off to our selcted patrol grid we patroled there for the ordered 24 hours then i desided that we would turn back north to the hunting grounds northwest of Ireland. We had only been in that area when we ran into a outward bound pryo ammo ship. We closed the gap to her and opened up with the deck gun. After only a few hits she was a blaze but the weather was getting to bad to aim well enough so i desided to finsh her off with a torpedo the fish malfuctioned so we fired another and it hit with a big bang amidships. The next morining we spotted a small merchant trying to make her way to England. She was sent to the bottom with the trusty deck gun crew the victors yet again, though we only have 60 rounds left for the beast now. http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/2951/gwxcar16eb3.jpg Stay tuned for part two |
Looking good mate:up:
I see those 'jaggies' are gone. |
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/7523/gwxcar17mb0.jpg
Very early on the morining of the 17th the watch crew spots smoke in the distance we plot a course and run off to investige we find it to be another pryo ship trying run the blockade we close to with in 600m and fire a torpedo it hits in the bow section ship seems to slow and starts to list instead of using another torpedo to finish her off i call up the deck gun crew to do the honours she goes up with a bang after about 10 shells. http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/2182/gwxcar18zw7.jpg Later that same day we came across two more ships the first one a Tramp steamer which was sent to the bottom with the last remaining shells from the deck gun and one torpedo. http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/3326/gwxcar19gp0.jpg http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/8230/gwxcar20vz8.jpg The Passenger cargo went down with a bit of trouble i thought just the one torpedo would send her to her grave but we needed to put another torp into her as we had no more shells for the deck gun left. But it was yet another sinking on what was turning into amazing patrol. http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/4740/gwxcar21wa7.jpg http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7884/gwxcar22ey8.jpg On the very next day we ran into the targets that would use up are remaining torpedos. The first one was a small merchant which was picked up on are hourly hyderphone check. We closed the target submerged and moved into fireing postion, we fired off our first torp at a range of 450m it hit amidships and stop dead and started to sink on a even keel. But after and 2 hours it would not sink any further and it was desided to put a finishing shot into her. Which smacked into her in the bow and down she went. http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6541/gwxcar23yz8.jpg The next ship to fall prey to us that day was a Tramp steamer, we picked her up on are hyderphones almost as soon as the merchant before her was sliping beneath the waves she was coming towards us so we lay in wait and when sighted we moved in to fireing postion. We let her close to just under 1000m then let her have two of the best. Both hit in the stern of the ship and down she went. The last of our targets was another small merchant, She was spotted my the lookouts as we raced from the scene of our last sinking. We droped to PD deth and let her close on us and moved into firing postion we fired one torpedo which hit amidships. She sank down a bit but was not going to go under so our last eel was used to put her under, For fun we desided to surface to fire are last eel. It hit with a bang and down she went. http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/9059/gwxcar24hr2.jpg Then it was rime to set a course for home back to family and friends oh and lots of beer and women for the crew http://img483.imageshack.us/img483/4975/gwxcar25gg1.jpg We had a very quite ride back to base we tryed to stay as far away from the UK as possible. It seemed to work as we spotted no planes are ships and we arrived off the mouth of the Kiel canal on the early evening of the 27th. We made good speed back up the canal and Kiel came into sight in the Morining of the 28th. http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/4844/gwxcar26cu1.jpg As we pulled in along side the pier i noticed a car pull up oh my god it was Onkal Karl!!! He steped aboard and addressed the crew and was very happy with us and wished us luck for are next patrol. http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/1685/gwxcar27eg2.jpg 30 Oct 1939 06:54 Patrol 2 U-49, U-Flotilla Wegener Left at: October 30, 1939, 06:54 From: Kiel Mission Orders: Patrol grid AM79 04 Nov 1939 02:59 AF 74 Ship sunk!
