Should there be a 1x player thread?

It is totally diffrent game playing at 1x...Once in a while I will do 1X patrol ussally when my assigned grid isn't a million miles away.Or when a new mod comes out. Some tips for the 1x player!
1. patiance
2. sh3 works and runs great in the background surfin and run the game
3.put the volume up when walkin away from your pc((yes the mad dash from the toilet happens even at 1x))
4.watch tv with the volume a bit lower
5.Its far more exciting when you finnally do bump into somthing sound checks are 10 times more important

I look at sh3 like this... tc all day to sink 1 ship or 1x and maybe sink a ship If you never tryed no tc its definately worth it--- Have a great day:know:

The first time I played SH3, on my first patrol I played 1x.

I started in Norway and sailed to Scapa Flow all on 1x. On the return trip though I caved and cranked up the TC.

Then when GWX first came out. I played 1x until I was out of the harbor and in open water. Watching harbor traffic and planes and all that.

EDIT: Hmm, and infact this talk about 1x patroling brings to mind an old PC Gamer article I read... oh I'd guess a couple months after the game came out. It was in the Sim Column, written by Andy Mahood, a SH3 fan, and was talking about some guy who detailed a whole 1x patrol and made updates in real time. How he just took like a week off of work and played the game the whole time. Wonder if his account is still around...

The highest I go is 32x. No further because well, do to time constraints off work playing 1x would be very difficult. However some nights I do 1x if time allows and just cruise on the conning tower hoping something will happen.

a good 1x starter is to set in folder sh3/data/cfg/main enemy detected to 1x ((the one in "my documents")) this will keep you at 1x when any enemy is spotted and/or till they dissapear:rock:

Bravo guys glad i am not the only ((real vitrual u boat cappy)) out there

nothin like leaning on the rail watchin the moon rise :)

Always did in all mods and always do (same for docking back home) I find it to be a very enjoyable moment and immersive introduction / end for a patrol... May be comes from being born and lived so many years by and on the sea...:D

I can see your point but number 1 is the BIG problem for me = PATIENCE ! I just don't have any; I can't even sit for 90 minutes and watch a Film on the Gogglebox.
In my heart, I know that if I'd been a U-Boat Kapitan in real life, my lack of patience would have sent me and my Crew to the bottom.

Corsair 12-21-06 04:36 PM

The good thing about a sim like SH3 is that you don't have to sit there all the time. It can run in the background while you're doing something else, as long as you can hear when your presence is urgently needed...;)

aircraft spotted only slows you down to 8x compression.

you gotta be quick sometimes.

Similar problems on calm seas when you finally spot a DD.
They may already know where you are.

So can it be dropped to say 2x in this situation? Currently if I'm in 32x TC and a plane arrives I have it set to diver to scope depth automatically.

For some reason I cannot task switch out of SH3. Just basically pauses the game and screen starts flickering. CTRL-ALT-DEL will not even do it.

@FongFongFong
Similarly, ship spotted takes you down to 8.
The worst bit is when you get the Convoy message and you're running at, say, 256 .. by the time you've gone down to 1, an hour and a half has gone by !

codmander 12-21-06 04:53 PM

souns like a keyboard issue VIIC DRIVER runnin sh3 as i speak/type:up:

SH3 Commander lets you set Time Compression parameters to anything you want. Airplane and ship spottings, mine drops to 1x. Radio messages, mine drops to 1x.

Radio Messages are a pain in the A** .. they stop me in my tracks when I'm doing Warp Factor 7 [TC 256]

The first time I discovered that people actually patrolled in real time I was both shocked and amazed. :o
That's ridiculous, what losers I thought... until

until today, where I still feel the same way :D

Letum 12-21-06 06:02 PM

I played 2 missions in 1xTC The first one lasted 4 weeks of game time and ~6 weeks of my time. The first 2 night I couldn't sleep at all because I had the volume on loud, the 3rd night I was glad the volume was on loud when I was woken up by the watch reporting 2 aircraft.
If I was still a student I would do it again.
I even grew a beard ;)

Ducimus 12-21-06 06:09 PM

Should there be a 1x player thread?

Yes.

You nutjubs are in a league of your own, and are, in my opinion, the only ones qualified to discuss any sense of the word, "realistic".

codmander 12-21-06 06:13 PM

After all it is a u boat simulator not a game 1x will give you a bigger piece of what it might of been like in reality the total dulldrums to sheer terror of course 600 other things are still missin like gettin throw around in weather/sea spray and the nasty smell after the crew had beans for dinner:dead:
