F**K this game!!!

I HATE THIS GAME!!!!!:damn: :damn: :damn: IT´S GARBAGE!!! BUGS BUGS BUGS. Finally sorted a few out then suddenly my saved games screws up. Whats the point in playing a campaign if u cant trust ur saves to be accurate.
Ex1 , I save in bad weather, just on my way back to base cause the fuel is running low. I got no kill on this mission yet cause the weather has been unusaully bad. So looking forward to the return trip, load the saved game and the boat freefalls to the bottom and all hands r lost. VERY FUNNY:damn: same S**T if i try again.

Ex2: saves during a pause in a depthcharge attack. 2 destroyers at med range from the boat. Load the saved game, boat takes multiple hits right away within seconds of launch and is flooded. All hand lost.

Ubisoft should be ASHAMED:oops: of this game. They did so great on IL2.
I dont care how good looking a game is if u cant play it without bugs that spoil the gaming experience. Back to playing Aces of the deep, a TRULY great sub sim.

Safe-Keeper 11-27-06 03:56 PM

True, the game was rushed and could be twice as good as it is. I still think it's a great title, but it could be oh-so-much-more:cry:.

There are certain rules to take when saving in the game that alleviates the bugs. As you've realized yourself, saving during combat is a bad idea. Saving while close to port is also not advisable.

AVGWarhawk 11-27-06 04:01 PM

I have read in this forum about not saving while in the presence of destroyers and ships because it could screw up a save. I, for one, have saved in the presence of vessels and enemy without ever having an issue. I agree on the bugs issue but all in all I can overlook these because the game is creative and fun to mess with. Just start fresh and if you have to leave under heavy fire, pause the game and minimize it!!!!

Had you patched the game with the four patches available from Ubisoft (1.1 to 1.4b), I think those get rid of a lot of the bugs in the stock game. There may be some threads in this forum worth looking at to address any specific issues with your game behaviour. There are also many others here with a great deal of experience with SHIII who may be able to advise you as to any further problems.

Respenus 11-27-06 04:04 PM

THAT'S WHY WE USE MODS!!!

And don't whine about the game. Just play it and all will be fine!

CptGrayWolf 11-27-06 04:05 PM

This game is playable after simply adding about a few dozen mods.

You only need to apply the one 1.4b patch. Not all four.

Hi there one of the bugs you talk of is a stock bug i think. I think it has been said in other threads that it is not a good idea save your game when you are near other ships or under attack or you are too close to land. As has been said in this thread already you are better off playing with mods. I know that GWX which is due out soon has gone along way to fixing as many bugs as it can. I have been testing hard as for nearly three weeks now and i have not had any of the bugs you talk about above in any of my careers. Remember GWX is not just a eye candy mod as it always gets called oh no it fixes a hell of a lot of the half assed finshed game that UBI gave us.

LOL, yes I realised that after I posted

Certainly this game came out of the box incomplete. However it cetainly isn't a piece of "SH*T". dudtorpedo, I would suggest patching and using strict saving rules to avoid issues. One of the benefits of SubSim is that we've wrestled with the bugs and limitations of SH3 since release and its much easier for newbies to the game to get under way. Though if you've played AoD I'm sure you're no noob.

Just patch, be careful where you save and explore modding options. By many people's estimation even stock patched this game is nearly unplayable after they've tried The Grey Wolves Mod, or NYGM.

Both major mods not only add content that is otherwise absent but also bring a new level of realism to the game and fix a few other bugs along the way.

kiwi_2005 11-27-06 05:32 PM

The game is playable without mods i never got that bug 'dudtorpedo' spoke of, only real trouble i always use to have apart from a few minor bugs was updating to the 1.4 patch but once thats installed, the game was okay - now after playing GW the stock game is very noobish. One bug i'll never forget is if a destroyer ran over me while at periscope depth it would sink. And i would survive! :rotfl: :rotfl:

dudtopedo start up a new campaign in another port and see how you go, once you got the hang of the game then try out Greywolves 1.1a and then your know what its like to be hunted:yep:

:shifty:Nice Title ...COUGH*NOT*COUGH

Lesson Number 1: DONT SAVE IN PATROL
Especialy NOT while beeing attacked!
Especialy NOT Submerged
Especialy NOT in really bad wheater

If you really NEED to save then:
be on surface , go slow forward and wait till the sea turns calm
then you have a lesser risk of getting a Bugged patrol when you reload the game.

FYI : I never had a problem with my Save/Load function. when I do the things above

Sailor Steve 11-27-06 06:16 PM

I have had very few of the problems you're ranting about, dudtorpedo, and I don't hate it a bit. Sorry you have nothing but problems.

Jimbuna 11-27-06 06:44 PM

Start a new career but take a little respectful advice 'dudtorpedo'....read through this forum first and heed some of the advice stored within

I think that even without the patches (my HDD just crashed so while I'm waiting for RMA I'm using a small one to get my SH3 fix) it isn't that bad.

It sounds like you were just unlucky.

GraylingSTS(SS) 11-27-06 07:12 PM

I seriously doubt that a community of over 8000 people would have formed around a simulation that was "garbage".

True SH3 wasn't complete out of the box, but the guys who have taken the framework that UBI created and then expanded on it, tweaked, (in some cases totally rebuilt it), have made an awesome subsim experience.

If you focus on crap, more often than not crap is what you'll get! I suggest you learn to patch, follow a few simple rules, and enjoy the sim...

And BTW, AoD was an awesome game in its day...but it too required patches to fix bugs after release.

mookiemookie 11-27-06 08:21 PM

To echo the sentiments above, ranting like a petulant child is considered bad form here in these forums. Sorry to sound condescending, but thems the haps.

Also as above, chances are someone has already run into the same issues that you have and has come up with a fix or at least a workaround. I'd advise you to poke around a bit and see what you come up with.

stabiz 11-27-06 08:38 PM

Actually, SH3 is a GREAT game once you patch it with 1.4b. I loved it at first sight.

But once you unleash all the crazy scientists here at subsim... Man, it becomes larger than any game I have ever played. And I have played many!

Once in a while a new games comes out, and my gaze is diverted for a few weeks, but soon I am back with my beloved SH3.

theluckyone17 11-27-06 09:49 PM

Oddly enough, I ran across the same exact bug tonight. I've already ran across the same bug, several times. Like the original poster, I'm getting very frustrated. Enough to set the game/sim aside, come up here, search a bit to see if someone has more information on it (or post on this thread, as it turns out), then go do something else until my SH3 itch overcomes the frustration I have.

I started out being very careful about my saves... not saving while submerged, near other ships, near port, etc. It didn't help. Every now and then, the bug strikes, and I go back a save or two, hoping to get a clean save game that's intact. Or restarting the career.

Same thing, tonight. I sailed out to the middle of the Atlantic, nowhere near land, or other ships. I can't remember what the weather's like. Open the save game, and the uboat tilts like mad, and heads to the bottom at +100 knots. Hits bottom at 503m, where my crew refuses to do anything but declare that "We're taking damage" intermittently.

Rebooting makes no difference. Closing and reopening makes no difference. Haven't tried saving it yet, and reopening (hmmm...) There's nothing obviously wrong about the number of saved files in the appropriate saved game directory, nor the size. I don't know enough about the structure of the saved games to play around further, unless I just start poking.

I know SH3 will suck me back in, but this is getting really irritating. Ranting and raving won't help, that's for sure, but I understand the frustration behind it.

TarJak 11-27-06 09:51 PM

Can't say that I've had any real probs with the patched version even breaking a number of the "rules" around in patrol saves. I've had one campaign save go pear shaped then went to the previous one and all was good. No big deal.

Whispers:(It's only a game!):arrgh!:NOT!
