Anyone still play stock?

Maybe the tinkering/modding bug is grabbing me by the nuts again, but for awhile now ive had this urge to tear it all down and go back to the basics, incorporating only real bug fixes. A sort of unoffical patch.

I know there are some folks that ive read who still prefer the original game (and many more who simply never could go back to the orginal game :D) So im just fielding the question to see if theres enough people who play stock to merit any bugfix compilation effort.

I play stock now and then, but only because that's the only way I can get peeps to play multiplayer.

I played one patrol whilst downloading the GWX beta, and I am never going back to that.

LOL. I know the feeling. What i had in mind was, again, just fixing the the stuff that was broke. The idea being to leave the orginal "gamey" game intact.

I played a patrol after making a fresh re-install. I hadn't even installed any patches at the point.

All I can say now that I've played the patched version with mods is... Wow. In a bad way.

The worst part is that I've played the unpatched version a lot before I finally upgraded. And I loved the game. Just... Wow.

No, I don't play stock. Never again.

I can;t think of a reason why you would. The two super mods and most of the other mods have made the experience so much more engaging than stock. Not going back unless on the way to installing a new super mod! Waiting patiently for GWX

Why on earth would anyone play vanilla when there is such lovely flavoured topping .

P_Funk 11-22-06 02:59 AM

Look at my sig and tell me what you think.:|\\

Ducimus 11-22-06 04:02 AM

LOL ok i think its pretty clear. I won't waste my time.

Samwolf 11-22-06 04:51 AM

I haven't played stock since Rub came out. The game just keeps getting better.

I really dont think what you are planning is a waste of time, there are lots of people playing stock, and if I were one of them I would love a bug-patch to go with the 1,4b.

The think is, in a thread like this all the mod-lovers will jump in and tell that they dont like the vanilla. :D

andy_311 11-22-06 07:10 AM

I personnally don't think I would return to playing the stock game.

HunterICX 11-22-06 07:12 AM

I've done that probably a year or more ago. Even with some of the bug fixes, the stock game is so incredibly - empty. Are there even friendly's? That's gotta be so demoralizing to the crew when they don't see any friendly units. The odd friendly merchant just doesn't cut it. The only positive I can think of for stock SH3 is that it loads allot faster and the harbor framerates are more doable.:rotfl: But you know what? I don't think I could go back stock again. Sometimes I may feel like seeing what the game used to be like, but I can hardly make it past a patrol or two.

Sulikate 11-22-06 09:25 AM

I've been playing SHIII with GW since the mod is out, and never went back to vanilla. I can't see a reason to do so.

AVGWarhawk 11-22-06 10:14 AM

I put the vanilla version away for over a year. I did not like the game that much until I stumbled upon the GW supermod...I have not stopped playing since and I'm quietly waiting on GWX. I would not go back to the arcade version since that is what shelved the game to begin with.

melnibonian 11-22-06 10:17 AM

I've been playing stock since the time the game was out for about 6-8 months. Then I've discovered GW and never look back. Now with GWX approaching I finally think the game is how it should have been when it was first released.

Sailor Steve 11-22-06 02:15 PM

No way. Ever since Beery put out the original Flotilla Fix mod I've been using something or other. Bordinstrumente, with it's realistic dials, Harbour Traffic, Airpower, sound mods, new ships and planes.

Even if all I could use was SH3 Commander I still wouldn't play without it. No vanilla for me, no sir!:nope:
