Receiving encoded radio messages
Ahoy Kaleuns,
I've got a question! I am on my third patrol in late 1939. I'm receiving several encoded messages from other subs that I can't read. Do I need any special devices installed on my sub to decode them? I think my sub surely has an enigma machine, and I've got a skilled radio man on duty - why doesn't he decode these messages. Damn patrol, btw, went into Hartlepool port to sink docked merchants or cruisers - but the port was empty. Hurrah! Evaded the destroyers on patrol to find nothing in port. :damn: |
Which mods are you using? There's no in game support for encrypted radio messages and most 'added' messages by various mods are simply for flavor, no actual game impact. Those messages might just be a way to make you feel part of the war rather than a lone sub.

I haven't modded, I am playing basic SHIII!
|
:o Never seen that before. Can you post an in game (ctrl + F11) screen capture of the message clipboard?
|
As soon as I am on duty again (that means as soon as I'm back home) I will fullfill your request!

Here is my screenshot!
http://www.renesachse.de/encoded_message.jpg It says: sending encoded message. Key: ... |
:o :o :o :o :o      :hmm: :hmm:
Now that's something you don't see every day... |
damn that would be a neat feature for a future GW update :D would really add to the immersion.
|
:o :o I've gone thruogh 6 careers and have never seen that.

Come on guys, I have received three of these messages during one patrol, I can't be the only one getting them? Or has anyone of you directly modded SHIII before playing the original version?
Anyway, I found a nice website recently with a java plug in to decode messages, just like the real enigma device. You can type in words and they are encoded. I don't think I should try to find out whether I can decode them, because the code table changed throughout the war. But maybe I can give it a try... :hmm: |
Never seen them in over a year I play the game...:hmm:
|
Never saw that either, and I played my first career on vanilla with 1.4 patch.
Also I like to said that my idea was stollen...no, just kiding, don't ban someone... I'm saying this because a few time ago, on a thread about a enigma simullator, the ideia of intregrating the progman in the game come up. Since to do that the game had to be redun all over, me and other fellow "forum users" come up with the ideia of someone creating a mod that make the radio messages came in code. Then the player, pause the game, minimize it and run the enigme simullator. The code was one used by the kriegsmarine etc. :hmm: Now we see that the creators of the game tought of that first.... |
I too have never seen anything like that. I have no idea what to say.
|
Thanks Kaleun_Saxi. :hmm:
This truley is an enigma. :D |
Where did you get your messages_EN or DE file? The stock one I got on my DVD doesn;t have any message like this. They are all in plain english or german text.
|
Saw that message before, but cant decode the message
Had that message before too, cant decode, need an enigma machine, even it's in the Uboot as display only, unless you know the code(check online) to break the code...
We as sim-games, try to keep the u-boot in 1 piece, and recieve a simple message(un-decoded), to understand what DBU means... It's not a code-break game... So when i play stock SHIII and had that message i simple ignored it... now i play SHIII with GW, i love the game even more...(only to much radio messages, than before).... |
Just a question...is the radioman on station to decode? I have seen this once and ignored the message. Check to see if Bernard the radioman is present to decode. Just a thought:hmm:
|
Playing this game since its release 2 years ago and have never seen this, I love how this game can still stump me. As asked above did you have a radioman on station?

Yes, my radio specialist was on duty when these messages arrived. And he's not Bernard. Or is he? "Bernard, this ain't neither crosswords nor Sudoku !!!!" Quote:
Maybe it's just a lunch order at the local Kiel "Submare-Drive-In-Burger-King"! :rotfl: "One Big XXL for the Kaleun and one Whopper for Bernard." |
