Slight Realism Question (Navmap)
During a campaign mission I am tasked with providing forward ASW support for an Indian Carrier group that has a Tico and Sprunence along with it. Now when you look on the Navmap you do not see them, only after you track them with your sensors can you pick them up on the nav. Now my question is wouldnt it be much more realistic if you could actually see them on your navmap in real time? I mean the Tico and Sprunence and your Perry would obviously be in contact with each other, no one is going to send a ship forward to do ASW and have them be on their own with no Link info on the Convoy they are supposed to be protecting? Or am I missing something?

make sure that show allies is on, otherwise, yeah, you'll have to find them.

...you are wise beyond your years :D

Nothing should be shown on the nav map in real time. It is, after all, a nav map, so unless you are using a cheat (show truth, show allies, etc.) all you get are representations of sensor solutions.
All ships assigned to the same side are on the link. The scenario designer in this campaign mission did not assign the escorts to the same side, so you're stuck with sensor data unless you want to take the easy way out. |

That's the mission designers decision.
Go PM him. ;) |
oh I know that, and he will receive a Nasty PM ;) lol But in this situation I do not see how this would be a cheat if it would happen in Real Life.

Thanks Gents. I've recently come back to DW and have been working on a mission but had come across what I thought was a bug. It appears not after having read this particular thread.
My mission involves a NATO contingent taking on a Russian contingent off coast of Norway. With respect to the NATO contingent, I have three separate sides. US SAG, UK SAG and a French SAG. When I had opened up the "show link" command, nothing showed up but the US SAG side which is the playable side. I then thought I must have to hit the "show allies" command in order to see allies on "the link." When you do this, you see everthing then, including subs down under in the deep obviously out of communication depth. I thought, "damn, this is a significant bug! Why can't I get those "allies" on the link?":o :hmm: Now I know. As I read this thread, I am to understand that the only way the player can get any friendlies "on the link" is if they are on the same side as set in the mission editor. The "show allies" command in the nav menu section is actually a cheat. So, if I want to have everyone on the link, forget the "alliance settings" and put everyone on the same side in the mission editor. Am I thinking about this the correct way now? :yep: |
Yes, you must put the units on the same side to be able to use the link.

Thank you. I now know I'm not going crazy.

And by the way, thank you for doing a search first so that the relevant discussion stayed together for someone to follow instead of spreading it all over the place and making the forum a mess. Subsim needs more like you. |
