Playing the Narwhal

lurking...

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/5474/narwhal.jpg

:D

first mission : reconnoiter Hiroshima harbor.

did a few test dives on the way, from surface to periscope depth at 8 knots took 3 minutes ! gotta train harder..

crash dives : 68 '' from surface at 8 knots, she's a sturdy but big and sluggish boat that's for sure.

sneaked in the Hiroshima bay, got shadowed by a gunboat, expended 3 torps trying to sink it. the last one did.

sneaked near the harbor at 2 knot, periscope depth since it's so shallow, periscope up : sighted flattop !

what the heck ! fired tubes one through three :

she capsized and sank ! one for the home team !

next :

sighted two Kongo battleships at anchor : fired both stern tubes at one, three bow tubes at the other...

Kongo 2 : notice the two gaping holes in her !

3 minutes... three (!)?! :o http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...ies/faint2.gif

But... but.. the Zero fighters then?!? :stare:

Normally we pick them up on radar some 7 to 10 miles out.

In the Gato that's *just* about fine - if we do not hessitate too long before crashdive...

But three minutes... gulp! :o

Right! Bring her on then! :arrgh!:

radar before 1942 ???

crash dive is sixty eight seconds here, roughly the same as the same size IJN I-Boats

But three minutes... gulp! :o
that is normal submerging from 8 knots... that's why you have AA guns !

Right! Bring her on then! :arrgh!:

As stated on the thread : Neal Stevens has her.

Reading that gets me fired up and wanting to play, thats cool. :ping:

Do you run at high realism, and did you get away from that port afterwards?

I would like to try the new boat. Not sure how to get it. I have only donated to the end of the year fund raiser thing and wonder if that would be enough.

Thanx.

I'm playing the Narwhal in RFB (with a fix for the nonexistent crew) and man, those 6" guns are maniacal.

I sank a couple merchants within a few minutes of opening fire, and, a patrol boat that looked like an akikaze destroyer O_O

with RFB's damage model...it's an accomplishment, and a hats off to keltos and peabody, who made the guns work.

speaking of which, Keltos, have you tried angling the guns (forward gun up 1-2 degrees, stern 2-3 degrees down) so they are flush with the deck? if you don't get what I mean the pictures of the White Narwhal shows what I'm talking about. makes for good pictures :O:

out of the bay just in the PO and see... only one fish left ! darn ! fire tube three at that large modern composite !

I just tried RFB 2.0 and had no crew, can you pm me the fix ?

no the guns aren't flush with the deck..

You're killing me, man! :o

Or perhaps that's the new procedure dealing with destroyers when we have those big 'uns? :|\\

Glad I'm not crew on your boat! :rotfl2:

keltos01 03-19-10 06:04 AM

we survived with minor damage from two shell hits, moved on to sink the other DD the same way, and the freighter they were escorting.

I noticed that when the DD got close I couldn't depress my guns enough to hit it? but real close I could :DL

I have a smoking great crew !
