DIRECT 3 Question to NEAL !

Dear Neal,
As you are the only one that tryied: "osp services" of some preview copy - amidst all that DRM fire, smoke, dust, mud and pukes - in 38 DRM trheads...

Please, come clear and straight - and answer the main question to all the community:
1) What is your outgoing /ingcoming speed of internet - in tested sample ?
2) What was your avarege Loading /Savegame times of Vanila misions ?

3) Did you manage to measure avarage. size of savegame ?

These 3 points - although only impression on trial copy-without mods, carreers,...etc. ARE by far - the central issue of this week !

Many people asked for constructive approach to dubious question instead of another 10 threads with fire-exchange... so Ladies and Gents:

Mr Neeeeeaal Steeeevens !!!
:o
...or maybe not ?

WTF?

Central issues? :haha::haha::haha:

Realy, im speachless

honestly, all 3 points are completly meaningless to me, they have like zero impact on the game

Narrowminded.....

1. Impacts a lot of things, esp dialup or pay per bandwith connections
2. Synchronization with the UbiCrap system savegames I guess mostly
3. Amount of bandwith required to save the game, see 1 and 2

Learn something about internet connections before you burst out stupid comments like that. Not everybody has a unlimited bandwith + high bandwith connection, esp not in statistics over current household connections if you go take a look at recent reports. Mind you my line has no faults, but still I would never not consider people with limited bandwith or pay per bandwith connections like you do.

Well, i have myself a very slow connection DSL 2000. 200 kb/s, connected 24/7. There isnt anything i could do about the load/saving times, so theyre meaningless anyway because you cant change it...got my point? :)

Only thing that you need to play the game is a stable connection, thats all

30-45 secs

1~7MB

Funny, I only got 3.46 (downlaod) and 0.65 (upload)... and I'm not ceding to panic.

Wraithe 02-27-10 11:56 AM

Neal I do think he wanted you to measure the amount of bandwith SHV is using instead of your connection speed

If you consider that slow well then.... narrowminded =P

I bet you the connection check it does to make sure your internet is working is just little pings of packets less than a kilobyte or 2.

How does it check then if the copy is legit? Logging into account at launch would do - if that's the case.
Ubi made their OSP for a reason, just checking if we're online seems not to be enough.
I think there has to be something more...

that is slow compared to the global average....

According to that jan 15 2010 the average connection speed in the world is 1,7mbps so yes unless that article is totally bogus 200 kB/s adsl is quite a bit faster than the world average

About the online check.... there's no way they would be stupid enough to just ping the server.... haha

A damned elementary grade kid with a bit of sniffing and programming skills could crack a system like that. I'm pretty sure there's a 2 way handshake or something similiar using some ubi algorithm to calculate checksums which are then validated. Meaning you are spending cpu resources on calculating a god damn security number. This number could include everything from filedetails in the game, system details, time and date sync bla bla so on.

Sone7 02-27-10 12:41 PM

I hope we won't face any big problems with that, no matter how it's working.

It's just a theory but that there is one of the reasons cracked games are known to run faster than the uncracked ones.

Doesn't look impressive...
It would take ages to save a game...

Well I can always use a toy submarine and play in a lake...:O:

Looks promising... that is, it looks promising when you forget the d/cs that seem to hit way too often...

Nothing like living in the capital city of my country. Look at those blistering speeds we get here.
