Question about Lifegaurd duty?
I had this game for about a year now but the computer i had wasn't good enough to play it, but I recently got a better computer so it works now! But since it didn't work on my old one i didn't think much of the game so I lost the manual and map thingy. So now i am doing a War Patrol for practice but it says to do Lifeguard duty but i don't know what to do. So how do i do it?

Lifeguard Duty {From the SHIV Guide)
There have been many questions about how to perform Lifeguard Duty and hopefully with the aid of some screenshots you will be able to get a better idea on what to do. Once you have reached the area where you have been assigned to pick up the aviators. The symbol will look similar to the screen below. http://i31.tinypic.com/2588d9i.jpg Once you get close to the symbol on the map go the bridge station and using the binoculars start scanning the ocean ahead of you lookout for telltale puffs of pink smoke such as below. One thing to take note of is that the aviators may not be in the immediate area of the yellow lifeguard symbol because they may have drifted off with the current which might be prevalent in the area where you are supposed to rescue the downed aviators. You may have to scan the area quite closely to pick them out. http://i31.tinypic.com/f19rsw.jpg As you get close to the pink smoke you will see through the binoculars a man looking like he is dangling from a parachute, only you won't see the parachute. Then down on the taskbar you will see an icon with a life preserver on it. http://i27.tinypic.com/rr41vl.jpg Once you are close enough the life preserver will light up, click on the life preserver and you should get notification that the aviator has been rescued. |
Armistead Excellent explanation for lifeguard. This question comes up often, I just bookmarked this thread. :yeah:
Shio you will first get a recon. star. Go to it and patrol for 24 or so hours. You will than get the lifeguard star and that is where you will find the down pilots. One tip try to stay south of the star and you just may find a very big IJN task force. 5 carriers. Good luck and good hunting. Welcome to SubSim. Magic |
I was trying this for a long time now but i cant see anyone. How far could they have drifted off? Or is it possible that the enemy could have got to them?
|
You should see down pilots on the 3rd near the life ring star.
They will show up on your Nav. map as stationary ships. IJN won't pick them up. They do drift but you can see their smoke for a very long distance. You gotta get real close to pick them up and at slow speed. The IJN task force shows up on June 4, '44. Long 136° 45' E. Lat. 12° 32' N. in the morning. Magic |
I'll never forget I was play campaign mode with TMORSRD and you never get lifeguard mission. I was waiting for the battle of Surigao Straits and out of no where I get 60 planes in formation on radar...not knowing of course. Turned out to be US carrier planes. I could see them attacking way in the distance and many went down. Then another large group came in. I attacked and sunk a Fuso and the rest went on by. I would come up and save pilots, dive, repeat...pulled over 20 out of the drink...not even a mission...Never seen so many planes,.

That's from Tambor's SHIV guide....everyone should read it since it tell you how to do about everything. |
Is that something on the forum? If so can you give me a link?

When your on the Bridge look at the pilot through the Binocs, Icon on the bottom row of a life preserver should light up, click it
|
Is the binoculars the second icon?
|
Look at the pictures above. The one picture with the pink smoke and arrow pointing to the life preserver. The Icon on the left that is green is your Binocs :D
|
alright thanks but is there a certain way to click it? Every time i click it it just brings me to the bridge?
