Installing music/radio mods...
Hi all,
my post in the original thread is not really being answered (dying to play  ) Trying to install some 1940s and CBS radio files, but not quite sure how to do it. Do I install using JSMGE? Do I put the rar files directly in the "MODS" folder for the program to take care of it? Thansk in advance! |
to install
ok. first via JGSME
extract the radio station to the mods folder lets say its called radio GFRS for the George Fombry Radio station: it should have this structure: main folder/sub folder/sub folder etc George Fombry Radio Station/Data/Sound/Radio/GFRS (this is the name of the station) add via JGSME now go to your game folder, go to the Data subdirectory this way: SH4 wolves of the pacific/Data/Sound/radio.... there you will find a file called radio ini. first make a backup of it open the file it will have a structure like this: [GENERAL] RadioRealism=Yes StartCh=1 [CHANNEL] Name=KGMB Honolulu Folder=KGMB Freq=16 Antenna=01.01.1941-01.01.1946:21.32,-157.87:100000 MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01 [CHANNEL] Name=Washington Folder=Washington Freq=27 Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:44.16,-35.10:100000 MusicVolumeOnNews=0.1 [CHANNEL] Name=KPO San Francisco 38.41 Folder=KPO\1941 Freq=38.41 Antenna=01.01.1941-01.01.1942:37.78,-122.42:100000 MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01 [CHANNEL] Name=KPO San Francisco 38.42 Folder=KPO\1942 Freq=38.42 Antenna=01.01.1942-01.01.1943:37.78,-122.42:100000 MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01 [CHANNEL] Name=KPO San Francisco 38.43 Folder=KPO\1943 Freq=38.43 Antenna=01.01.1943-01.01.1944:37.78,-122.42:100000 MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01 now go and add the lines defining your new radio station: [CHANNEL] Name=GFRS Folder=GFRS Freq=185 Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:34.05,-118.22:100000 ;MusicVolumeOnNews takes values from 0.01 to 1 MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01 note the values on antena: thats the air time interval and the two lines Name= thats what the cursor will show when placed over the radio Folder= thats the name of the folder containing the songs, it must be the same of your radio station. hope this helps |

OK, I'll try it tomorrow... Seems like much work to install the mod, but I guess there is no easier to do it. Cheers! |
once you install
it looks hard...
but is worth it... those CBS, the BBC, our Trans Atlantic (read GERMAN) STATION,,, you dont know the thrill of hearing the RAF tally daily kills and Winsto´s speeches... and frankly after your first radio station.. the rest are easy    |
Been quite busy and finally had a chance to install the CBS radio mod.
Extracted the files to KNX folder in the order as mentioned above and installed through JGSME Went to the radio.ini file and added extra code. Name and folder were both KNX. The only thing different I added was the frequency, I put it at 50 instead of 185. Tried to play the radio and it just sits at freq of 50 but nothing plays... Does the freq have to be 185 or can that be adjusted. ALso another question, once you extract part1, do all the parts get extracted as well? That is what I thought happened, btu want to make sure. Thanks jason |

And yes, all parts should extract automatically. |
Well I guess thats my problem right there. I dld from the BTS site and used JSGME...
Not sure if I put music in the folders or not. I just created subfolders in my MODS folder and exctracted KNX to them directly. I then ran JGSME and afterwards modified the radio.ini file (backing it up of course). Funny, the .42, .41 did not exist in the ini file when I modified. Just had the washington station and thats it. All I added was [CHANNEL] Name=GFRS Folder=GFRS Freq=185 Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:34.05,-118.22:100000 ;MusicVolumeOnNews takes values from 0.01 to 1 after the washington station. Fred, sorry if I'm a complete ignoramus on installing this mod. Couldn't find the readme stating the filefront versus the bts downloading. I'll take another look at the readme file included in the KNX folders. Thanks, Jason |

And don't worry. We were all newbies once.:D If you need any more help, just let me know. |
Basically did exactly from the readme. Extracted to the Data/Sound/radio folder. I then went to the ini file and pasted the generic radio freqs directly after the Washington station. Booted up, loaded my game and this time it found the stations but nothing played... I must be missing something... :hmm: Thanks for the help! |

DLed the CBS station and turned on the radio for the first time. I've also taken some music and put it into the corresponding "years" folders.
Boot up the game and turn on the correct frequency. I hear one of the songs that I've placed into the years folder and I think "Cool looks like it working, no more gramaphone for a while." A couple of minutes into the music a brief announcement comes on BUT the music still plays. Is this how the radio is supposed to work? I would think if an announcement or speech comes on, the song that's currently playing should mute or fade away right? Is this possible or is the whole point of these radio station mods is to turn to the station and listen to silence until a certain point in time is reached? Edit: Nevermind, looks like the last parameter for each channel in the radio.ini file controls the volume of the music once an announcement comes on. |
Fred,
Yeah thanks I put some music in the years folder and worked fine. Music came on but CBS interrupted... Did you originally planned this as a replacement for the gramaphone? When I was installing this I was under the impression that the radio station was only for music. I used some of your 1940's music (very nice collection BTW) in the years folder. Another question: If wanted to add another station, would I have to put music into that as well? I'm assuming yes, btu haven't dled other stations yet. Thanks for the help, Jason |

If you add any of my stations, you will have to add the music too. As I said earlier, I left the music out for the size and in case users wanted to use their own music. The only exception is the Radio Saigon station, but I didn't create that one. I'm just mirroring it. To ncorpuz34: If you copied the info to paste into the radio.ini from the KNX readme, the music volume should've lowered when the event started. |
Hi Fred!!
One more question: I installed the KNX at about March 1942 in my career. Every time I save and load, turn on the radio it always starts with the first report (Feb11 1942). It seems like I can never get to the next episode since with time compression and hitting a contact, I usually shtu the radio off. Is there anyway I can sync game time to radio time to get the right war news? Also is their a way to advance radio programs? Thanks, J |
do you have the events.ini file???
