Phantom ships

Hello guys,

It is my first post here and i want to ask if someone knows whatīs wrong in this: in my second patrol in the american carrer, iīve tried twice to go into a jap port; the two times i torpedoed a ship that instantly dissapeared, but the smoke, the bubbles in the water were still there, and of course, i donīt get credited for it.
Thank you in advance

Iīm running SH4+U-boat 1.5, TMO 1.5 + RSRD

Not sure if this is the problem, but I remember reading that in some cases when you sank a ship in shallow water you wouldn't be given credit for it unless the total damage you did was greater then the "hit points" assigned to the ship. I believe it had something to do with part of the ship still being above water, due to the shallowness (is that a word) of the water.

Welcome aboard Rommer69 emjoy your stay.:up:

were they by chance a pair of small subchasers
minding the harbour entrance.

could be your standard torp put them into orbit.
its very quick and easy to miss.
hit pause at the moment of impact and go to
free cam from where your sub is look at the
water spout and look for a flying object some
where between it and the sun that resembles
your target.

no seriously
it may be the deal.

Are you suggesting that a boat can sink negatively? -10m, -50m, -100m captain we're sinking towards the stratosphere.
Doesn't it fall back in the water (whatever is left of it)!
If you take it down with the AA gun will it count?:88)

if the boats damage model or physics model is drastically wrong
ie. low or no mass

or conversely if the torpedo is tweaked which is a different thing
but looks the same, thats how I learned the technique of shooting
down entire squadrons of fairey swordfish using Black Swan Class
sloops for AA ammunition.

its also whrere the technique for getting a screenie of it came from.

So ergo, if you have an early model of the game its possible you have
a badly modelled subchaser. :know:

So when you shout "BLOW THEM OUT OF THE WATER" you mean it literally!!!!

As they like to say here in Canada Diopos, He shoots .... he scores.

20 points for taking an aircraft down by hitting it with a flying freighter!

I bet the pilot won't see it coming.

Things to do:

Add "She's going up!!" Sound track.

Both times ships were torpedoed in shallow waters. iīm afraid i canīt use the external cam because of the carrer settings (itīs disabled) but maybe thatīs the matter.
Do you know a solution for this?:hmm:

There is a thread in a spanish forum talking about this, but nobody seems to have a solution, here is the link, look specially to the second image (not as astonishing as the flying Black swan), but that was that happened to me.

Thank you

I remain uncertain if its even still a problem I recall that at one
point there were a few , I think it was just an older version.

either way the fix was to reset the mass of the ship

CollateralDamage 07-26-08 05:20 AM

I've had this happen with a miniature sub and a landed H6 Search Plane. When I saw the minisub blow UP (literally) I was a bit dazzled and took like a dozen screenies of it.

Also I've seen some of the new IJN ships, that were added into the game by mods (i think), doing some pretty funky stuff. Like in Tokyo Bay there's a bunch of dessies that are going full reverse speed. I mean it's like they broke the shifts that allow them to go ahead and they just cruise backwards the same patrol route. Also the animation of the actual ship makes them look like they are traveling forward but actually they're going backward.
