Councils 'face 10% central government funding cut'...much more of this and our roads and streets will be as dark as North Korea...
A 10% cut isn't really much.
Though of course if you take the 10% cut and then factor in the huge expenditure increases councils now have to budget for due to benefit reforms it is a bloody massive cut.
I think Westminster Council forecast that the "savings" on housing are going to cause a 60% increase in expenditure for them.

Highly likely....'fun' times ahead.

Government borrowing is now showing signs of increasing despite recent windfalls.

How many people are out after midnight, and actually need the street lights? Could keep them on a bit later on Friday and Saturday night for the party crowd. A good way to save the electricity bill, and then not have to make savings elsewhere. Also means that street lights do not shine into bedroom windows all night and disturbing peoples sleep.

I have often thought it would be cheaper to pay for each house in a street to have a town hall sponsored solar panels so that natural energy can be collected and used in the community. I think they are developing small solar panels for street lights.

Dear burglar, I'm going on Holiday now.
Unfortunately there's nothing left for you to steal.

The Tories beat you to it.

Nigel Farage admits offshore tax 'mistake'

UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage said he "felt uncomfortable" about setting up a trust fund in the Isle of Man but insisted he did not avoid or evade tax.
The MEP told the BBC that he opened the fund in 2003 to reduce his family's inheritance tax bills but quickly realised that he had made an "error".
Such funds were no longer appropriate for politicians, he suggested.
The Conservatives said that Mr Farage had "questions to answer".

How do you use your cash card when the bank is offshore? Does this mean you can only write cheques.

Jimbuna 06-21-13 02:44 PM

Liquid assets.

Gerald 06-21-13 02:47 PM

Offshore banks are common, just a different side of the bank.

Spiced_Rum 06-21-13 02:49 PM

What, you deposit your treasure with them and they give you barrels of rum in return. I like the sound of liquid assets, except I would end up drinking them instead of storing them in the cellar.:arrgh!:
