I think I'm ready for the kitties!
http://imageshack.us/a/img854/2995/vkc4.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img585/1852/fxew.jpg Got the litter box all set up back there in the corner as you can see - I figure I'll keep the carrier down on the floor for now so they can use it as a "house" while I'm gone and they're staying in the mudroom. I want to keep them in there when I'm not home until I'm sure they take to the litter box and will use it exclusively even if they have the run of the place. Lucked out with the litter box as I really wanted it in that corner but wasn't sure if the power cord would reach around to where I could plug it in, but it did with a little to spare. I put a cord channel along the wall to keep it safe and secure. I decided to put it up high like that because I still want a new floor in there eventually and that will mean pulling off that baseboard, and who knows what I'll replace it with. I didn't want to end up having to pull the cord channel off the wall and do it over if it turned out to be down too low when the time comes. Also got a food/water station and a couple of kitty PlayStations set up, lol. They're still little so it should be enough room to accommodate and amuse them for a bit until I'm ready to let them come and go from there as they please. Got a cat door to put in the door between that room and the kitchen but I don't know how long it will be before I can get it installed. In the meantime I'll just have to keep the door propped open enough for them to get in and out when they're not on Mudroom Lockdown. And I even put a motion activated path light down on the wall between the doors to the kitchen and garage... so they won't have to eat or poop in the dark should the mood strike them in the middle of the night. BUT I'M NOT GOING TO SPOIL THEM OR ANYTHING. :har: http://imageshack.us/a/img834/1511/goe5.jpg Actually it'll probably be handier for me since I won't have to go fumbling for the light switch on the opposite wall every time I go out there from the kitchen to grab something. :yeah: |
Wait...the litter box is powered?
Anyway, better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. Meow. |

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Only I'm not using the cardboard disposable litter trays, I bought a hard plastic one designed for this particular brand of litter box. Then you just buy the litter (which costs about half as much as buying a pre-filled disposable tray) and change it out when needed. After a couple months, the permanent tray pretty much pays for itself. The drawback is that you *can't* just throw it out, it will have to be cleaned periodically, but so would a standard litter box. And a disposable tray couldn't just be cleaned and put back in, it would just have to be thrown out every time even if most of the litter in it was still okay. I'm supposed to go pick them up tomorrow after lunchtime. Yay! |
I'd only buy a litter box that emptied cleaned and replaced the litter itself. :D

Note to Frau K... Cats can see in the dark. So, your path light is strictly for you.:D Always keep up with the litter box. My cat got a little pissed about it and let me know by crawling up in our bed and pissing on me.:hmmm: I clean the thing daily now. Which isn't fair because milady, who wanted a cat, swore that all the chores that go with being adopted by a cat would fall on her.:haha: Well, she's old and crippled now and can't get up and down the basement steps. It's fun riding on the succubus. |

Yes, I keep the cat's toilet in the (unfinished) basement because the dog is scared of the stairs and won't go down there to forage for Scooby snacks from the aforementioned cat toilet. Fish flavored poop seems to be a delicacy for the dog.:shifty: I didn't want the bloody cat in the first place and solemn oaths were made but I still got saddled with it's care. Oh the life of a Jedi master. I could fix the little woman by installing one of those elevator chairs.:hmmm: hmmm |
Frau, here's a little device you might want to look into:
http://www.catgenie.com/?gclid=CKmGg...FfFj7Aod0FgAUg I'm glad to see your project(s) are proceeding so well. One question I do have regards a more human side of condo life: How is it going with the neighbors and the HOA? Some of the people I have known who own condos have had some misadventures with the HOAs and the people who live around their condos. I hope all is well on that front... <O> |

When I first opened the carrier Sam came right out and started looking around. It took Carrot a while. Sammie went right out into the kitchen by himself, and after I took that picture of him by himself in there I turned around and Carrot had basically said "screw this" and was back in the carrier. Beyond venturing into the kitchen neither one seems interested in exploring on his own at this point, unless I lure them with a toy of some kind. I had to carry them into the office to get them to stay in there where I could keep an eye on them. There was much hiding under the desk and behind boxes before they discovered the open window... and then I couldn't get Carrot out of it. The funniest part was when he did climb down for a bit I closed the window because it was starting to get a little chilly... then I was sitting here and heard a thump and looked over and he was trying to jump back up in the window and couldn't quite grasp the fact that it was now closed. He just keep jumping up and bouncing back off the glass. Took him about four tries before he figured it out. :rotfl2: After a couple hours they were both sacked out under my desk again so I took them back to the mudroom and now they're both sound asleep in the carrier again. As far as I can tell neither has officially "used" the litter box yet, although they've both been in it several times scratching around so here's hoping they've figured out what it's for when the time comes. The first time the automatic rake cycle started they both took off running but it just ran again when I was in there and they didn't even blink so that's good. They've hardly touched their food and water, but it's been a big day and they were both eating right before I brought them home. I'll have to see what they do overnight. |

Carrot and Sam. Good names for your new crew.:salute: Looks like they made themselves right at home. Which is now theirs and you're just the nice hoomin that is there to fill the food dish when it gets empty.:D
They won't stay in the crate after they discover your bed and how nice it is to sleep next to a warm hoomin. Neighborhood advisory: Be on the lookouthttp://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...TightDoors.jpg for this corrupting influence... http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...umpy-Cat-1.jpg |
