The problem is, that the Adriatic, coastal part of the country has rainy winters and winter tires are not obligatory like for the rest of the country. And then they go driving up state into fresh snow :/\\!!

AND don't use the brains the good Lord gave them to spend a buck or two on snow tires.

It's also looking pretty bad in parts of France.

Betonov 12-29-14 01:18 PM

They found the cause of the accident.
Strong wind blew a snow cloud onto the highway and made a viewing distance of 0 on an already icy road. There was really nothing that could have been done and we're lucky there was only one pile up since the situation was the same all over the country :nope:

One trucker made a sound decision. When he had realized what was happening, he drove his semi into a ditch, plowing into snow and not the cars in front.

None of that ''Siberian'' winter they foretold. Temperatures were a little under -3°C in the morning. My ushanka is still not being put to the test

swamprat69er 12-31-14 08:37 AM

It is snowing out now and the temperature is 0F/-18C. it will be a dry snow. Great for blowing, drifting and a general pain in the butt for the guys that plow the highways.
We can expect a couple of inches today, tonite and 5" tomorrow with snow squalls.:yeah:

Sailor Steve 12-31-14 10:21 AM

Right now we have a clear blue sky. Temperature is 8F / -13C. Snowbird ski resort has 76" on the ground, and got 7" new snow yesterday. Great skiing!

Great! Send it this way! We need more snow cover.

swamprat69er 01-01-15 08:14 AM

I got my wish! 6" on the ground and still snowing. Big fluffy flakes. It will be easy to blow.

STEED 01-01-15 09:28 AM

Dull & damp today.

swamprat69er 01-01-15 06:42 PM

It took all of 3 hours to do 4 driveways and a parking area. That included a 20 minute chin wag with one of the people. We only got about 2" after that, so I will wait until tomorrow to do it again.

swamprat69er 01-03-15 07:07 AM

This just in, YES!
Today: Snow showers early, with a steadier snow developing late. High 28F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.
Tonight: Snow this evening will transition to snow showers late. Low 23F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 100%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.
Environment Canada is saying 5cm/2" today, tonite and Sunday. When they say 5cm, we usually get about 6"+, we are in a valley and for some reason either get lots or none. We'll see.
I will keep you posted as to what we do get.

22:30 hr and we got about 6-8" on the ground and still snowing.

Betonov 01-04-15 03:31 AM

+6 degrees C today, strong warm southern wind and black ice on roads. The weather is haywire again :/\\!!

swamprat69er 01-05-15 01:02 PM

NOW it is getting a little cool out. -15F when I got up this morning. Almost cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.:D

swamprat69er 01-06-15 05:53 AM

Getting a little cooler....-16F/-24C. My winter coat is already in the heep, almost time to start wearing it.

-14 in Minneapolis. Hard to believe people live here, I guess they are being punished or something.

Betonov 01-06-15 09:26 AM

+6°C during the day, -6°C at night.
The snow melts during the day and freezes into ice during the night.
There's a sleding accident every two days, the conditions are just too good

The sled path Valvasor, where I live. This is old with actual snow, today there's nothing but ice

Mid summer to us geordies +7C 45F :sunny:

swamprat69er 01-07-15 10:53 AM

Well, we got down to -30F, it warmed up to -20F and that is where the temp is staying for the rest of today. The foreman I work for in the summer called and -30F is the high for the day in Timmins, ON. He is about 5 hours north of me.

-14! That is just sweater weather BBY! Do wear a hat though and long skivvies!:D Try separating your fifth wheel at Duluth in -40F- the slide-grease is frozen! not including the wind chill to add another -20 degrees.:nope: The indispensable small propane torch is to thaw the road slush from your shifter base so you can switch gears on an old 12 speed road ranger. :O: Any one looking cold at -14 is presumed to be a Jihadi mission radical trying to blow up the IDS buiding or the old landmark Foshay Tower and we deport them to Iowa-immediately:03: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...oshayTower.jpg for years, this was the only tall building in MPLS!! The joke was: have you ever seen the MPLS skyline? then flip the jokee off...with a Hamm's in your off-hand...just to be Minnesota Nice of course! Seriously, the Movie: New in Town has a classic scene with Comdienne/actress Renee Zellweger:up: arriving at the MPLS airport in winter which reflects the actual making of the movie in Manitoba "feature on the DVD documents that the cast and crew survived bitterly cold temperatures of below −50 °F (−46 °C) in Manitoba, which sometimes resulted in malfunctions of cameras and other equipment." A MUST SEE:har: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or-j5pg9CMM Renee just 'nails' IT!

Were having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave! -6F this morning! Warmer than it has been over the past week.

Wolferz 01-11-15 07:45 AM

Almost as good as the Jamaican Bobsled team following John Candy into the great frozen north.:haha:
