There a sequel to the book Red Storm Rising? If there is then maybe that's the answer. But i'm reaching as I never read RSR or played the game.

Lets hope its a Cold War subsim. :smug:
The market is already saturated to death with WW II games.

But, I would like to put in my two cents about a Sub Sim that I'd love to see with SH4 type graphics and sounds...

688 Attack Sub for the PC by John W. Ratcliff (Electronic Arts)

I remember I had a patch that came with the game... and I'm not talking a patch you install to update the game... it was a real patch you could sew onto a jacket/shirt/etc... :sunny:

But, I remember shortly after (more like 9 years later), 688i Hunter/Killer came out, and I loved that game... there still is no game anywhere close that has the immersive environment that this game provided. I loved sitting at the Sonar station and just listening for contacts... That was what made me join the Navy and want to become a Sonar technician, but alas, I wasn't/am not a U.S. Citizen, and so I became a FMF Corpsman... heh... either way... I loved what I did.

Anyways... it'd be great to see a more up to date 688i or maybe even a Akula Simulator with the sounds and graphics of SH4.

I'd love to see biological contacts again... really being able to hear Torpedo tube doors opening... etc... that'd be great.

Ummm... Sniperdoc? You're joking, right?

You do know that there's been two newer versions of 688i with more playables?

Check the Dangerous Waters/Sub Command forums here. :shifty:

sniperdoc 09-12-07 07:52 AM

Sorry I'm draggin' this OT...

I was aware of Sub Command: 688/Seawolf/Akula but didn't know if they increased the eyecandy any...?

Plus, I couldn't play 688i on XP anymore... didn't recognize the Soundcard properly. So, I didn't want to buy it and then have compatibility issues. Just FYI... I am an IT Geek, so I've dealt with situations like this and quite frankly don't wanna mess with the Autoexec's and Config files... Blaster=220 etc... eeech!!!

What's the other Subsim?

Could it be...

Welcome geezer29 That's as good a guess as any. Maybe Microsoft wants to get into the act with a SubSim.

The red shirt guys name was Ricky in the description.

Isn't it Thursday somewhere in the world already? :damn:

There is no sequel to that, BUT...

...well, there is no saying that the 'sequel' game couldn't be a re-imaging of the first title. I mean, it's not like 'Silent Service', 'Silent Service II', 'Silent Hunter', and 'Silent Hunter 4' aren't all covering the exact same material 4 times.

And with UbiSoft - one of only 2 companies anymore making sub sims - having such a great deal of luck with anything branded 'Tom Clancy', a subsim/action game 'Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising' might do VERY well in the market.

You'd think that after a week at least some other inkling of a hint might work its way down to the masses.

It has now.
Ok, here are the details from Tesseraction Games:

Quote:

Tesseraction Games has a new owner.
Enigma: Sink The Hood is officially in pre-production.

This time out we are working to increase the playability of Enigma as a command simulation and a ship simulation; with a new host of ship simulation features. Imagine a difficulty slider with Enigma 1 on one end and Aces of the Deep on the other: that's the goal.

We will be using a state of the art rendering engine, a well known 3rd party physics engine, and support for joysticks and proprietary controllers.

What's going to be different about E2 vs E1?

- No hardware copy protection
- Multiplayer
- TAG will host servers
- Players can host servers (current plan is for 16 players)

- Terrain with Harbors, Ports, Facilities, and emplacements.

- Crew and Officer representation

- massive upgrade to graphics; particularly the ocean and ocean effects

- There will be no difficulty setting this time round, only realism settings: this will include items like reload times, required equipment operations (like hydrophones...), contact plotting, and radio useage.

- Ability to run silent

- no Time Compression and no "edge of battle" placement. Distance traversal will be handled like SWOTL and other games (warping available while out of range of any contacts).

- Drills and training will make a difference to performance of officers and crew

- Improved (and historically accurate) fire control systems (ships)

- Extended voice recognition systems (E1 was cited as having best voice recognition in any game by multiple reviewers) and voice response.

- comprehensive support for the modding community; everything from ships, instruments, controls, sky, clouds, terrain, fauna, structures, audio, all the way to particle effects.

There is much more to come, watch for announcements here at Subsim.

CDR Resser 09-12-07 09:32 PM

Hey, what do you know, it worked.:rotfl:

FlyingThermos 09-12-07 10:43 PM

That's cool with me. I enjoyed ERT a lot and a version with more realistic weapons and tactics modeling is something I would enjoy a lot. I just hope there is some sort of simulated dynamic campaign. The only thing I didn't like about ERT was doing the missions over and over again tell you did it just right and completed it.
