RHN Georgios Averof (Pisa Class Armoured Cruiser / Panzerkreuzer). WWII paint scheme

Actual WWII pic:
http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/1087/picture1ec3.jpg

Some history:

WWI Era
The ship was launched on March 12, 1910 and sailed in Faliron, near Athens, on September 1, 1911. Averof was at the time the most modern and powerful ship in the navies of either the Balkan League or the Ottoman Empire. As such, with the outbreak of the First Balkan War she took part, as the flagship of the Hellenic Royal Navy. During the naval battles at Elli (December 3, 1912) and Lemnos (January 5, 1913) against the Ottoman Navy, she almost single-handedly secured victory and the undisputed control of the Aegean Sea for Greece.

WWII Era
After Germany's attack against Greece in 1941 and the collapse of the front, the ship's crew disobeyed the orders to scuttle the ship to avoid capture by the Germans, and sailed to Alexandria to join the Allied forces, under constant German air attacks along with the remaining Greek fleet.

From August 1941 to the end of 1942, the ship was assigned to convoy escort and patrol duties in the Indian Ocean, based at Bombay. After that she returned to Port Said, where she was used as a headquarters ship, and was assigned to harbour protection missions.

Today
She is preserved as a museum in Athens, Greece. The ship is still regarded as in active service. Every Hellenic Navy ship entering or sailing in Faliron Bay honours the Averof while passing; every man on decks stands to attention, officers saluting, looking to the side where the Averof is in sight until "Continue" is ordered.

Averoff and GWX

VonHelsching, it may also be a good idea to post the Averoff in the GWX status thread too, in case some future GWX players are not checking this particular thread regularly.:hmm:

Additional Merchants, Part 2 by Sergbuto

Has anyone added the two new merchants imported by Sergbuto yet? Here is a link to the relevant thread, as well as a picture of each of the ships. The download link is on his page, as are his other older mods.

Download Link Gone?

The link is supposed to be on Sergbuto's site, but sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't (along with some of other newest mods). It was missing this morning - then it appeared right under the original Additional Merchants - and now it's gone again (along with the air attacks mod). :o I don't know what's happening here.:-?

EDIT - I reloaded the page a couple of times, and the link just re-appeared. Try doing this a few times. Still, it is a strange problem - is anyone else experiencing it?

Jimbuna 11-26-06 04:12 PM

Yeah...similar experience AG :damn: ..thought it was my computer :D

Does anyone know of a mod that includes the Canadian Fort and Parks class merchants?

AG124 12-08-06 11:30 AM

Fort and Park Class Merchants

No, those ships haven't been modeled for SHIII. But actually, in the open-source subsim Danger from the Deep, several variants of the North Sands (or Fort) class freighter has been included - if you want to see a couple of shots I can post them for you, although the model is not available for this game. If someone was looking to build a new merchant for SHIII, this would be a good one to do, IMO, as it could represent any generic merchant of that size in addition to its specific class - more so than the ugly C2 and C3 anyway.
