Bah, I happened to have been killed once and pinned down for 3 minutes afterwards by a friendly MG on the very same 29th ID server 2 days ago...

Having talked with Chad a bit about 3D modeling, I've decided to restart the King Tiger "soon". I lost what I had when I reformatted my PC, but doesn't matter. Lots of stuff I should've done otherwise in it, so better start from scratch. :hmmm: Also, as a extra, I'm thinking of modelling the interior first and then slap armor plates around it, kinda like one does a miniature model. (kinda have started on it already)

Raptor1 04-18-10 10:33 AM

When I have free free time again, I'd finish the IS-2 I set up to model a while back in order to obliterate that King Tiger of yours...

Dowly 04-18-10 11:50 AM

Wouldn't want to be in a King Tiger, when I did research on the interiors, it seemed like the shells were stored on the inside walls against the armor plates. Propably the same with other tanks, but just never knew that, feels kinda silly. :hmmm:

Oberon 04-18-10 05:01 PM

:o Slow, heavy, prone to breakdowns and uses its own ammunition as armour...

Think I'll stick to the Panther or Tiger I, even if they've got much lighter armour and a smaller gun...

Dowly 04-18-10 05:36 PM

Heeey, the King Tiger was actually quite mobile for it's size! :yep: But yeh, it's early stages in war weren't pretty. Some units lost majority of their Tiger II's to machine break downs. I remember reading that one unit lost something like 5 of their first KT's and they had to blow them up to avoid the enemy getting their hands on them, they never fired a shot with them.

Here's a good pic of where (AFAIK) the shells were stored (those little shelves on the back there).

I haven't posted in this thread yet, but I've posted some of my stuff in the DW boards so I figure I'll try and go for a wider audience...

I'm just playing around with the rendering capabilities of 3dsmax

PLAN Warships

German Type 212 and Type 214 U Boats

Looking forward to any feedback, especially any tips on improving my rendering skills. :salute:

EDIT: One more

VAMPIRE INBOUND!!

Here are a few surviving renders I did years ago with POV-Ray. I had a real affinity for spheres back then for some reason, probably because the clear materials catch the light and do cool stuff with it. The version of POV back then didn't have some of the really nice features that the current release has. Now if I just had the time and attention span to take advantage of it.

Yes, that is my name that I plastered into the images. We didn't have to worry about privacy so much back then.

This last one is my favorite. The end of the copper cylinder that was differenced off of the bottom of the glass reflected back into the sphere to create these kind of Princess Leia-hair swirlies on the inside. That was totally unexpected.

Like the last one. :yeah:

Damn! You got some talent! :o I dont think I need to mention, which one I like the best. :O: Please, post more.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I though to start the King Tiger interiors with the easy stuff to get all the thingies back to my memory. So, here's the shells. The black grenade won't be in the final thing, I'm making two sets of shells the yellow and the slightly shorter with black grenade. The ammo racks for the inside of the hull are almost ready, just need to re-check if the ones in the turret are any different or if I can use the same ones for both. Anywho, more on them propably tomorrow. :hmmm:

Right, the shells:

If there are no (major) objections to nudity. Here's one just for you Dowly:
(it's note exactly an "ammo" rack but hey...:haha:)

Saved into the hellish depths of my HD. Thanks.

May I ask, have you drawn her after somebody? She looks somehow familiar. :hmmm: (after saying that, I surely hope she's not your GF/wife :haha:)

She's not my wife or g/f even though I wouldn't mind making her the later (at least couple times) :haha:
Google name Julie Strain. I think she is/was one of the hottest females on the planet (Keira Knightley is alright, too ;))

Dowly 04-19-10 03:41 PM

Right, thanks. Will have a look. :salute:
