If I were honest, I would tell you that I had tears in my eyes while driving 1.000 km back home to my wife and that song was on the radio...

Amazing...an almost identical experience driving home for Christmas 1990 from Holland :o

Well if we're going to start talking about Christmas songs that bring tears to the eyes... this one always chokes me up considerably:

I was still in the army here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...%2C_Modell.jpg

when the Gulf War started in 1990...

....and I had to get here

that was 1.031 km from door to door...

Edit: I did that once a week... :o

Mine was a shortish drive to Europort from Dordrecht then a ferry crossing followed by a drive from Hull to home.

Well Jim,

even older guys like we both are can be overwhelmed by emotions some time. Being separated from our beloved for a period of time and awaiting the worst can do "wonders"

Yes, that is really a nice comprehensive analysis of the situation:

Edit: I remember sitting on a flight on an UN air plane (Transall) from SARAJEVO to Cologne with bullet holes like that....

Actually that's still way better than the Heintje stuff. I don't mind the yodeling so much and the music was kinda pretty.

Heintje? Wasnt he the Dutch revenge for 1940?

Btw bavarian Music is always pretty. :O:

Well if you dont like the Jodln, then something more modern maybe ;)

Yikes, bring back the Jodln. Anything's better than WDWD.*

Anyway, I just bought my Christmas presents for myself. I won't get to enjoy them until next year, but the anticipation should be fun:

  • BRAHMS: Academic Festival Overture
  • SZYMANOWSKI: Violin Concerto No. 1
  • BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 3, Eroica
Cincinnnati Symphony Orchestra, Feb 24/25 2012
  • LISZT: From the Cradle to the Grave
  • SCHUMANN: Piano Concerto
  • BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 6, Pastoral
Cincinnnati Symphony Orchestra, Mar 23/24 2012
  • BEETHOVEN: Violin Concerto
  • BERLIOZ: Symphonie fantastique
