Well, I checked out some of MontyDan's movies and I was amazed by 'Adrenalin Rush' it was fantastic. Just what I like to see, a clear story that flows throughout the movie, not just lots of pretty graphics. Also, it had fantastic sound, which IMHO really lifts a video up much higher than just music.
I would have liked to have entered this contest, but unfortunately I only found out about it rather late, through a comment on Tex's entry re-posted on YouTube. I hope there will be another contest soon! I've only done one video so far, which, the more I look at, the less satisfied with it I become. It was a good learning experience though and I know a lot more than I did when I started it. :know: |
I think both entries are great, but I do have a favourite :D, so I know which one I'll be voting for. I've seen quite a few videos by Stabiz, Tordo and Tex, which are all really well made. Is there anyone else active in making SH4 / Submarine movies?

The contest is open until the 31st. Enter one if you can:up:

Thanks for watching! I'm not sure if there are any others making Silent Hunter videos like Tordo, Stabiz, and myself. So far no one else has entered the contest except Stabiz and myself, but there's still the rest of today and tomorrow left until the contest ends. |

I have here for your amusement (it's not a comedy, but you may find it hilariously bad) my first Silent Hunter video. Not only is it my first SH4 video, it's also my first ever video of any kind. I'd never used any video editting software before this first attempt so I know I made a lot of mistakes, which I can't rectify, having deleted the original Fraps video (low disk space). There's no titles, as I didn't know how to get them to work, so I skipped doing that part as I was quite impatient to finish it at the time. Since reading up a bit about video editting techniques I realised I made quite a few of the common mistakes in the camera work too (crossing the line, for example), but anyway here it is: http://www.stage6.com/user/Nisgeis/v...eighter-Attack The first time I tried to play it, it had no sound, but now it seems OK. This video was made one week before Christmas, so probably does not qualify to enter into the competiton, but that's OK, because it wouldn't win anything :D . If there's another competition soon, I'd love to join in that. It was filmed with version 1.4, with no mods. I have to say the ROW camera will be a fantastic boon to get me some of the shots I want. Rest in Peace Leovampire. Nisgeis. EDIT: Changed link to new video that doesn't have sound problems. |
All videos qualify. If you want me to add yours to list to vote on I will. We take all comers and view all videos.

Very good first outing! It way better than my first video. There are some issues with the sound though, I didnt hear anything until approx 1 minute, and after that the sound was out of sync, i think. There was a loud explotion when the sub surfaced at the end.
|
Actually that was a very good job for your first ever video Nisgeis! I liked some of your camera angles indeed. I agree with stabiz here, it's way better than my first ever video. I too had an issue with the sound though. It didn't work until the video downloaded completely.
@ stabiz, about the audio getting out of sync... I've noticed on stage6 if you drag the position slider around while the video is playing it can mess with the audio and video sync. If you notice it's out of sync on any video you can hit stop then play again and it should correct the problem. |

Nothing wrong with the sympathy vote!!!! I will post up a thread tomorrow with the links to each movie and create the poll.:D |

http://www.stage6.com/user/Nisgeis/v...eighter-Attack This seems to have fixed the sound not starting problem (at least on my system). Thanks for the feedback! Nisgeis. |
Yeah, now it works.

@ Nisgeis, the sound now works for me too.

So, as it's a bit slow in this thread, I thought I'd ask a few questions of the movie makers and the movie watchers.
What do you like to see in a SH4 movie? Is there anything that kills the movie for you (like game icons or menus) that kills immersion? Are there any must haves for it to be a proper sub movie? And for the movie makers: Do you have a set idea of what you want the end movie to be, or do you start and see where you end up, gathering ideas on the way? Is there some tool / feature you wish you had? (better crew voices!). Is there anyone out there that would like to start making movies, but hasn't yet? Nisgeis (with a g :D). |
