Nope...you'll find out soon enough because delivery is scheduled at 6-8 June :smug:

You actually put the idea into my head...a sort of diversification or adjunct to the collection you could say :03:

I'll come up with an educated guess, :arrgh!:

Dunno about 1/72 diecast but...

:hmmm:

Bit cheap and cheerful though I think...probably not a collectors item.

Show some respect colonial! :nope::03: That's an EE Lightning. The Saudis used them against the Egyptians during the North Yemen Civil War, only one was shot down. The Lightning has also been credited with one kill...which...erm...was...a Harrier...
She had a remarkable climbing ability, could intercept US U-2s with relative ease, much to the surprise of U-2 crews who had thought themselves uncatchable at the height of 88,000 feet.
Remarkable bird, in her time one of the best fighters out there, but technology overtook her and she had to go. None flying anymore, there was a South African one but alas there was a tragic fatal crash. However there is a group in the States looking to return one to flying condition...now that will be a sight (and sound) to behold. :yeah:

Yeah 'cheap and cheerful' just about sums it up :DL

Here is the Thunder City Lightning that was or is the end of an era :-?

Check the short video out at the bottom of the page.

I've currently got four different examples in my diecast collection.

Following on from #107 (The Brick Raspberry Ripple scheme, originally purchase because it was a Brick and not because of the colour scheme) the following was posted by my friend...

I look forward to more pics.

This got me to thinking about the fact that many aircraft types were painted thus and based at Boscombe Down for pilot training, equipment evaluation etc.

A quick look at the Unnoficial Corgi Diecast Site told me there were at least six variants/types on offer so I decided to add them as a little niche to my collection.

Here is the latest addition (two others on order) AA35409 Sepecat Jaguar T.Mk.2.......991/1360

Looks close enough for me...

I loved being at BD for the shear variation in aircraft, not just ETPS's but a whole load of others inc. the VAAC Harrier - an old airframe with tomorrows cockpit. And I ran the sports and social bar there, so had many, many real ale tasting nights :woot: The only thing I didn't like was I had a desk job when I wanted to be back travelling and living in a tent/hotel in some lovely hot, sandy places. :yep:

That must have been an extremely interesting period in your career.

The neares I got to the RAF was my 10 week initial training course for Northumbria Police at RAF Dishforth. At the time the runway was covered for landings so jets would 'hot wheel' it....touch down for a few seconds and take off without dropping their speed.

Army Air Corps nowadays  At least there's still flying!

Dishforth.

Boscombe Down is now run by QinetiQ, a private company from the embers of the public DERA. Huge profits were made by some :nope:. The airfield is still controlled by RAF personnel, there is (was) a few small RAF sections - Harrier and Tornado software teams, Fast Jet Test Sqn, Heavy Aircraft Test Sqn, Rotary Wing Test Sqn, and obviously ETPS (very few Brit students, all Indian and beyond!). Obviously the Harrier software teams now going to be non-existant! :nope:

My office was just to the right of this wonderful scene... (if hotlinking works from here)

I've a QinetiQ Hawk on order funnily enough, they're on special offer @Modelzone for £19.99.

A little of that feeling was so from the beginning, actually .... but after 10-15 minutes it went better ... the best was at take-off, also stops when they reversal engines, if they want to shorten the distance to land on, where it was so powerful it was enough,

Jimbuna 06-04-11 12:02 PM

After alluding to my bargain off evilbay (£12.54) and numerous hints and gusses '#135, 137, 140, 141 and 143' (presuming I haven't missed any) here is the latest addition.....a Tornado from Boscombe Down AA36003 1155/3400:
