whats with the stupid "smilie"? you seem glad that SH5 didn't turn out to be a popular as SH3 at first release? seems a stupid reply :(
the same reply with a sad smilie, would sum up what most people feel about SH5, sad thats its not as good as first thought due to bugs?

To me though, they released it to soon, should have released it in another six months, after loads more beta testing? but that seems the way of most PC games these days :(?

other than that, it has great promise, infact it already improved a lot with mods, and more patches to come :)

UBISOFT, PLEASE REMOVE THE DRM :( :( :( :( :( fed up of the game stopping ever time I lose my crap ADSL phone line connection :(

I wasn't putting the ":har:" as any disrespect to the modders who have done an excellent job. The stock game is shocking is what i really meant. I'm just not that shocked that the price came down to such a low now, it was always on the cards with the DRM and all the bad press it's getting.

I'm disgusted at how much is broken in this game. It is disgraceful to have released it with so much content missing/broken. Why is that SHIII still shines through two subsequent releases (even vanilla).

One the other hand, the graphics are to die for. Have to take the good with the bad I guess! Fingers crossed for patching/modders to square away.

I had to... :O:

Anyway. I'll look upon this game as I have with other games in the past. It's a great game engine with lots of potential.

Some day I'll be living my old AOD dream and actually walk into a nightclub and converse with the gentleman telling me there's a old VIIB still out there.

LOL...Steve. Watch it you might get accused for being anti-SH5 for that comment, or worse yet a forum snob. :)

Any chance of an SH5 Commander or similar program at some point in the future, or is the programmer (JScones?) burned out and tired of making them?

I know.

What I'm getting at is by allowing your character to walk in 1st person the possibilities are endless. This idea really woke up in my mind when I found out you could walk around in the submarine pen and talk to people. I almost had to clean out my pants. Not to mention they did that perfectly. When you end a patrol it still keeps the harbor loaded. I actually saw a ship explode for some reason outside while I was talking to the upgrade dude. :har:

I only have an AMD 6400 duo cpu at 3.3Ghz
windows 7
4GB of DDR ram
and an ATI4870

I have all my graphics up to MAX and it plays smooth?

maybe you PC is nOT as good as you think?

well I was referring to his coment:

"In Silent hunter 4, I could add every option in the graphics and my Intel i7 processor would have it working like water. Also, it would show in 1980x1080 because I have an HD computer. Silent hunter 5, won't even play smootly on my powerful computer"

So I was saying that it plays sweet on mine (at 1920x1200) and yet my specs are not top class?, however I have since found out that it play **** (fps) on nVidia cards, so maybe he has one of those?

btw, mine plays sweet and looks great... dude ;)

BamaFan67 04-01-10 02:51 PM

I have a Nvidia card, runs smooth as glass on my system.
Instead of busting on him about posting on a fan forum when he stated he has been a fan for yrs, how about, i dont know......try to help the young man. If your game is running smooth, and his isnt even tho he has a newer i7, make suggestions. Things like update drivers, directX, sound drivers..yes sound drivers do affect frame rates.
5 seconds out of your life to be helpful, thats all it takes. No need to LOL him because this was his first post. Hell ive been playing SH series since SH3, but i just recently decided to start posting after yrs of lurking.

forgot..edit:
mine plays sweet and looks great also dude
but you only have a duo core LOL an AMD at that LOLOLOLOL
Only 4 gigs of ram? roflmao
ATI4870? your killing me!!!

Dont like it much when someone busts on you, right?

lol, you really can not read, can you?
I have already said I don't have a top spec PC? Not done an upgrade in some time.....
Thats why I told him that even on my lower spec PC it runs fine, I have since heard that some nVidia cards have slow fps in the contol room?

BamaFan67 04-01-10 03:20 PM

you totaly missed the whole point of my post and went right to your system. Ok your comp runs it with less than stellar hardware, couldnt you have made suggestions to help him with his problem seeing he is running an i7 and all. Something has to be amiss in his system. Wouldnt you agree?

Well I think you may well have missed the point of his post too?
To me it seemed more like a "stay away from SH5, its ****" post, than a cry for help?
when you put this in your post:

Silent hunter 5 is terrible and not enjoyable to play at all! If you buy it...you will be VERY VERY VERY SORRY!

a proper cry for help would have got a different reply from me, as his post stands....I gave the correct reply, whether you like it or not :03::O:

:haha:... next patch should fix that, in the meantime pretend it's sabotage!

cawimmer430 05-29-10 06:09 AM

I recently bought Silent Hunter 5 after much anticipation. Although I informed myself reading various reviews and watching demo videos of the game on the Internet, I didn't feel that the game was that terrible (as most reviews have stated).

So I went ahead and dumped a lot of money on the game, went home and installed it and played it.

I have to say, I am very disappointed. Truth be told, this game sucks. While I do enjoy the graphics and the fact that I can walk around my submarine, there isn't anything else that makes this game better or more enjoyable than SH3 for example. Overall, the interface has become more difficult and confusing and as usual with the Silent Hunter games there is no real informative tutorial.

And that's my biggest problem with SH5. The interface and controls, which have become so needlessly complex. What was wrong with the standard controls of SH3 for example? I thought every button and control function in SH3 was intelligently designed and allocated. The controls on SH5 are a pain in the behind and simply retarded.

Even worse, the instruction manual doesn't explain to you simple things like how to get your crew off the deck gun once it's manned or how the repair crew works etc. When I look through my UZO where do I see the distance to the target or the heading? Where is my TDC menu?

There are more annoying things about SH5 that really ruin the fun. Why does my submarine always extend its periscope to full height when traveling on the surface? What the hell? I know this was sometimes done in real life, but the game seems to overdo it. Hell, even in when I am in a friendly port and my lookouts spot some German ships do they raise the periscope. Epic fail.

Once again, the controls and interface of this game blows. I also miss the F5-F12 buttons from SH3 which allowed me to quickly be at another position in the U-Boat at all times. Sure, those are a bit unrealistic but it sure beats walking there all the time, especially in situations where speed and quick diving are essential. I despise the diving procedure in the new SH5 game. Here's why:

So, I started a career in 1939, did the whole Poland episode and then got command of my own boat. I selected a mission to attack the coast of the Eastern UK. On my way to the designated area, I came across a small merchant task force in the middle of a moonless night. It was escorted by a lone small warship. The warship was heading straight for me but had not sighted me yet. How do I dive? I couldn't figure it out for the hell of it. Then I moved my character below deck and hit the dive button - so that's how it works. This is an ass slow procedure. What happens when I am surprised on the surface by an airplane or more powerful warship? Seriously, why can't I give the order to crash dive and then move my character below decks? Why do I have to waste precious time moving his slow ass below decks and then ordering a crash dive.

Oh, and where and how do I control depth and measure depth below keel in SH5?

I wouldn't have a problem with SH5 if it was basically the same layout as SH3 with the added benefit of the better graphics, walking around the sub and more ships features of SH5. In my opinion, SH5 has become needlessly complex and slow (from an interface perspective) and these ruin the gameplay. I'm all for realism, but if the interface, controls etc. SUCK, then the game won't be fun to play. Period.

Hello everyone! This is my first post in this forum.

I bought this game couple days ago and modded it before i even tested it. And I kinda liked it (well more that SH4 but less that SH3). This game interface is chaotic and I am not sure did the ubisoft development team ever tested this game because it is the most bugged game ever made. This game is only well known uboat simulator today and it could be classic! And it still can be fixed. They have good base structure in this game, but it seems that they gave up at some point and never finished it.

This is simulator so I cant even imagine that what where they thinking when they released this game before you could even aim manually whit torpedo or listen sonar. Also the AI is stupid as hell. I can travel on surface to enemy port and blast everything in sight. Enemy destroyers should be aggressive as hell and I should be scared ****less when one of them comes less that 10km from my U-boat.

Sorry about all those spelling errors.
