SH5 players, Introduce yourself: roll call

Hi! My name is Mats and i am 46 years old and living in Sweden. I was a member of subsim long time ago, joined first time when Silent hunter 2 and Destroyer Command was released, i think it was. (loved them games in multi-player) But disapeared after a year or 2. But now im back and looking forward to play this new game and be a part of your community. :yeah:

Penguin 03-12-10 10:57 AM

oh no, another German!

Ahoy,
my name is Steve, my physical age is 37, my mental depends - don't ask my girl! :O:
I live in Düsseldorf, Germany - within torpedo range of Ubisoft Germany. No assault request, please! :arrgh!:
I've been playing computer games since the age of the VIC 20, my first subsim was Silent Service on the C64 - the first sim which really got me.
I came back to subsimming (is this a word? - I guess here it is) through SH3 which was quite a difference to SilSer and it woke a deep interest for u-boats in me.
I've always been interested in history, especially WW2, however not particulary in U-boats. SH3 changed that, so in addition to the price of the game came a s-load of time and money on books and of course an immense amount of time playing it.
I work as a broadcast technician for TV. Besides I read anything I get my hands on, love loud music and "I don't like govenments very much" - thanks for the qoute, EgoApocalypse.
Oh, and I am eagerly aticipating SH5 -the second Ubi removes their ridicolous DRM -> bought!

Im sure most everyone knows me... I have SH5, just waiting for it to mature...

Well... what to say... I started with subgames along time ago, with Silent service 2 on the supernintendo... Also have been into flight sims (started with FS 98 if I recall. Went on to Picific fighters, then To Il2. I also like strategy games, mainly play Hearts of Iron 2, and the Total war series Err... not much else I guess the ocationaly the FPS...

Sledgehammer427 03-13-10 01:29 PM

well, Since I got the game, I guess I'll chip in :D

I'm Owen, 19 years old and I come from a mill town in north-western Illinois, actually, the only reason we are anything bigger than a village, is because of the mill (Northwestern Steel and Wire) But since that closed down...everyone's just kinda living here now. I'm kind of the leader of the "sub club" around here, being the most knowledgeable in submarines among my friends, and somehow, I have owned every Silent Hunter ever made....I know. I play the occasional tanksim, but my tactical expertise barely goes past convoy attacks so in tank games it gets a little awkward. I am still an avid flightsimmer, and I wanna get my license, so I can buy a plane and start earning money flying people everywhere.
Of course, I have nothing better to do since my girlfriend is in Finland on foreign exchange, there's a long story there. (So, Dowly, if you ever come across a crazy american girl, run for your life, she might just be mine:D)

I stumbled across SUBSIM trying to find a fix to my complaints about something in stock SHIII, and I've been kinda stuck here ever since. I am honored to be a moderator here, and now, a relatively long-time member. :|\\

Hello Everyone

Hello all simmers , Iam art .. I am a insurance agent and a motorcycle rider , I have been around the world a few times .. I started playing sh3 and than moved into sh4 .. I have always been facinated with WW2 history , Also I have been in the fourm paying close attention to keltos modding of sh4 ,, Recently a travisty occured in my life I have lost my computer and home amoungest other things ,, however life has taken a turnaround and I am getting a few things back again , the very first thing I did before ordering a new computer. I ordered sh4 and sh5 and also il2 1946.I ordered those threw here on subsim,, subsim has been the most imformative data base for me on all the subjects of subsimming . I have been using the handle of kimura ijn ,, Kimura was also used in relation to cfs2 , sisnce I was a virtual pilot for the 68 sentai ....http://68sentai.tripod.com/.. we were a group of pilots that fought against virtual enemeies . we had a group of crazy guys from japan that were also apart of this group . I have also flew in il2 as the 244 sentai ..however many hours of virtual flying and my age makes the little dots in the distance seem way to small .. and thats when I started sailing in the u-boat of sh3 .. I seem to have alot of times drinking vodka and getting smashed while sitting at my computer desk while the ship was still sailing the next day . I used real time and sometimes slept at my computer .. while the morning was wnning and my head was still spinning from the last nites drink . I learned to speak japanese while flying .. this was a total imersion factor ,, so I am still wishing to fly once in awile and once a while sail in a long drawn out campaign in sh5 ,, I went down alot in sh3 and sh4 in the higher settings .. one campaign that I will never forget is I was tracking a convoy the weather was foggy I than surfaced and behold a frieghter was just left of my bow bearing down on me fast I crashed dived only to get hit . than a corvette kept slammimg me I sank

I am now 48 old I live in NC and but always have had fun playing sims I notice alot of simmers listen to metal .. well I do as well dimu borgir is one my favorites

Hi All,
My name is Paul, 45 y/o and I live in Adelaide South Australia ... and a one-eyed Adelaide Crows fan (the other Aussies will know what I’m talking about there).
I also enjoy downhill skiing, jet skiing, volleyball and a bit of military history on the side with a focus on armoured warfare (mostly WWII) and submarine warfare (of course). On the computing side I’ve being playing since I bought a C64 – mostly flight, sub and armoured sims – the more detailed the better (love Black Shark at the moment). I also like the more detailed war games – panzer/ modern campaigns, Hearts of Iron etc. The very occasional shooter too.
As this is my first post, I’d just like to acknowledge all the really helpful people in this community who give of their time, knowledge and experience to help others. In particular, those who sort out the technical problems and, of course, the modders – well done and thanks to you all.

Hi all,

I've been looking forward to getting SH5, even though I've heard alot of negative things. Been playing SH5 all day today and can say that its better than I was led to beleive. Still needs alot of work tho. Hopefully the Devs release some good patches that fix most of the bugs and missing content. :yep:
Hopefully SH5 can be turned into SH3 GWX, with that bautiful graphics engine. thats what im hoping for anyhow.

I've always been into simultion games. mostly Formula one and flight sims. Then in 1990 i discovered Silent Service II and was instantly hook on subsims.
I have been playing Silent Hunter 3 for the last 5 or so years. I've never managed to complete it. Usualy end up getting killed. Damn that GWX team. :O:

Good Hunting.

J.Williams :salute:

Hi, everybody.

Well, I'm Silent Hunter fan for a couple years now. I got SHIII by an accident, just stepped into it while searching for another game. I remembered that my grandfather used to play SHI or SHII when I was young, so I had to give it a try :)

As for now, of course bought SHV as soon as it was available in Poland. A little bit dissapointed I am, but still I am sure Ubisoft won't leave us crying, and modders will do the glorious job of making it a simulator again (I want to start modding it myself). And that would be it. :)

Cheers and good hunting!

I would also like to send a big Thank you to all the sharp brains out there, that dig deep and modify the gamefiles to improve our journey on and under the sea.

Yar.

Long time lurker, silent appreciator of the game-saving magicians that make my entertainment worth the money I spent on it. Without you guys, I would never have stood in my living room in front of my big screen TV (I play on an Alienware laptop with HDMI), in my boxers and a white captain's hat, a bottle of Jager in one hand, and binoculars in the other, humming Westerwald and yelling at Bernard, with the sounds of sea spray and diesel engines shaking the pictures off my wall through a 1000W surround sound home theater system.

I am also a technical/deep wreck diver who has a special place in his heart for shipwreck archeology. Not only have I stood watch on the bridge, walked between the diesels, manned the deck gun, and crammed myself into the torpedo tubes of a half a dozen U-boats, I've also seen "ship caustic effects" on a T3 tanker - up close and personal.

Neat little hole my ass!

If you have any questions about shipwrecks, feel free to ask. More than likely I've touched it, most especially if it is in the Outer Banks.

Hi, motorcycling psychiatrist from Wales likes simulations that involve torpedo shapes (oo-er missus!). Played silent service II years ago and seawolf - just bought SH5 on impulse, had to buy a new pc to run it, then a video card-- but its going now :) cant wait for them to finish it lol.

Hi My name is Andy. Wolfgang or Wolf in game. I have been a Silent hunter gamer since the begining. Just love Sim games. Am Heavily into Flight Sims as well Work with Her Majesties Coastguard and live on the East Coast in Norfolk (No Jokes about tractors Please)
I must admit I am a little dissapointed with the new game and it needs a lot of work done on it but i know the brave band of Modders who work tirelessly without pay to make this game playable and enjoyable.
Think that Ubisoft should hire these guys and pay them for all their hard work

Hi,
conus00 reporting!
My name is Libor, 36-years-old born and raised in former Czechoslovakia. Moved to the USA when I was 25 and still living here. Recently resident of Ohio but planning on moving to Tampa, FL at the end of May.

Graphic designer by trade but have been recently making living by officiating ice-hockey.
Big hobbies are playing games and building models of submarines.

I was dead set on NOT buying SHV but I got my hands on copy for $16 so I couldn't pass. Got it mostly for modding though.
