Hi skookum,

What format is that document? I get a bunch of errors trying to open it in WordPad :-? and then it opens but with no graphics. Could you please save it in a more general format like RTF or even better PDF? :)

Microsoft Office Word also considers .doc to be it's own format. :damn:

p.s. And if that wasn't bad enough, different versions of Microsoft Office Word also used the same extension without you being able to tell the difference unless you use a hexeditor IIRC.

With Openoffice no problem. It's free!! download here: http://download.openoffice.org/ :yep:

I read it without the pictures and it looks good. I just want to comment on this bit:
***IMPORTANT --- Remember to close the TDC window after each data entry to ensure it updates bearing and AOB information automatically (more on this later). Though we haven’t entered either bearing or AOB yet, it’s still a good habit to imprint.

That's really not necessary until after the AOB has been entered. Only the bearing and AOB get updated automatically so until you've entered the AOB there's no benefit to flipping the switch, and seeing as seconds count, why bother with extra steps. :know:

Otherwise, perfect. Will you be adding the 1.5X zoom procedure as well?

Just tick Windowed mode (or untick fullscreen, I'm not sure) in the video options menu.

I have just downloaded your tutorial and it's great too! BTW, you can easily save it in pdf using OpenOffice.

  • Draggable quick/approximate depth-by-colour tool added to navmap.
  • Fixed right-clicking on the WE/NA (or on their icons).
  • Lower memory requirements for the mod (may help with frame rates and/or stability on some machines).
  • Miscellaneous cosmetic tweaks.
Cheers,
OLC

this mod and the improved wave texture i consider anyway to be the two best mods ever made for sh3, but that's just my opinion.

congratulations onelifecrises you really did something great here.

one question::: was the lines in the obs scope in the last version or was they just added, i don't seem to recall them in the last version of the mod.

Ah, then I do apologise for wasting a minute of your time

In all the years I've been playing stock SH3 I never noticed - presumably because I seldom used the obs scope, except when preparing to surface following an air attack, to check for aircraft.

Home from work now, off to download the latest version :()1:

looney 11-14-07 01:33 PM

Hey Turm Uzo is also locked to the scopes... sometimes a bitch ;), but I used to get my solution long range by attack scope and then in close range I used Obs scope. the 1x magnification was perfect for accuracy.

Can't do that anymore ;) with this mod *sigh*

Sorry, was my reply a bit snappy? :o I try not to get irritated, but those "minutes" do add up you know... and so often, people aren't asking about the mod at all, they're asking about stock behaviours that they never noticed before. I don't mind answering questions about the mod (as long as it's not questions that are answered in the readme/tutorial, or questions like why didn't you do it this way? - the time for those debates has been and gone - or can you make me a version just for me which has X, Y and Z? - sure, I charge £400 per day, here are my account details...) but explaining stock behaviour to people isn't something I'm overly keen on. I had to put one poster on my ignore list after he bombarded my PM inbox with such questions. :damn:

Until now I've never been fond of the acronym RTFM, but... it's starting to grow on me. :-?

That's the worst thing about releasing this mod - supporting it has turned me into a bit of an arsehole! :( Just ask Pisces: he made a perfectly reasonable comment in the WIP thread and I blew up at him in a PM. Fortunately he was really understanding about it but not everyone would be, so I try to watch my words now... I guess I don't always succeed.

Should I post this... :hmm:

Yeah, feck it. :arrgh!:

If you're referring to the bearing indicator, yes it was in the last version, but it was in a different position on the screen. I moved it to get around a problem with the Flaggen chart (stock hardcoding issue, can't be changed so I had to get around it another way). I trust it's OK in the new position? :ping:

donw 11-14-07 02:36 PM

I too have to apoligize OLC...I also asked a pretty dumb question a while back here, that was answered in the readme...Caught it on the 2nd read through..

Cheers Mate....and again...a great piece of work!

I'll download open office and release the tutorial as a PDF.

Because I keep forgetting to flip the TDC to auto after entering the bearing and AOB, I now make it a habit of leaving it closed unless I'm actually entering data.

And yes, I will add tutorials for the 1.5 zoom AND the attack disc as time permits.

Whoa, hold your horses! ;)

I didn't take your reply to be in any way snappy. I was just being (or trying to be) gentlemanly and genuinely apologise for asking - what turned out to be - a daft question that was nothing at all to do with your mod. I see how many questions and requests you're bombarded with and I try hard not to ask things that have probably been answered already, elsewhere. I am one of the rare people who really does RTFM :know: I don't want you to be a victim of your own success so I'm trying to only ask intelligent questions. Or so I thought :rotfl:

When I first used your mod for 1.4b, I was puzzled by the "U-boat" folder that appeared in my mods list. I didn't get it - I thought maybe your folder structure was wrong in the file. I'd read the whole readme file for your mod but as I wasn't using SH3 Cmdr at the time I skipped that part in the readme. Of course, it turned out to be in there after all. At least I didn't post in here and waste another minute of your time! ;)

So please don't take me as a person who asks before using one's own loaf! I just never noticed the scope behaviour since owning SH3 from release day. You see my post count is low, even though I've been reading the forums for a long time, and a member for a while - I only tend to speak when I have something worth contributing or asking (at least the local time issue turned out to be one such thing, even if it's yet another pain in the posterior for you to look into).

So sorry once again - I didn't take your comment badly, but you misread mine as a defensive/sarcastic remark. It wasn't! Just an "oops, my bad"

One thing you may have overlooked is that a lot of people using auto have loaded up your mod tried it a few times then found they cannot go back to the old GUI. Which says a lot about your implementation.

Unfortunately this means a lot of questions about manual targetting and who better to get the answers from than the maker of the mod :hmm:

So I will just add my thanks to the many others who will no doubt convert to 100% realism due to your Mod

p.s. Can you get the WO to state whether it is Neutral/Enemy or German

Oh right, lol! Sarcasm (or lack thereof) is always difficult to determine on a forum.

Over the last few weeks I've certainly felt snappy at times :arrgh!: and it's hard to know whether I did a good job of not showing it!

Anyway no bother about your question (it was a quick one to answer ) and thanks for RingTFM ;) :yep:

Hmm this is weird. I uninstalled SH3 and GWX 1.03 and reinstalled them both, installed OLC GUI 1.1.3 for GWX and I'm still getting a missing clock and single digit frame rates. Any ideas as to what's causing this?

Notice the white rectangle in the lower left hand corner.

Been using this for a few days now and seriously, wow! This is great work, and a comprehensive tutorial also.
Appreciating OLC that you've been somewhat bombarded with feedback,it's with this in mind that I'm hoping not to be a completely annoying person by asking a couple of questions.
OK here goes, basically I want to tweak one or two small things to suit my playing style.Firstly I'm a big keyboard fan and I'd love to be able to bind the auto tdc button(I think I found this one in Commands.cfg) and the button which calls up the main control/telegraph/depth dial.Is this possible? If so could you please point me in the right direction?Secondly and this really is a minor cosmetic tweak, how would I go about re-positioning where the CE's report dials pop-up?
Apologies in advance if I'm being a pain in the a**e,at the end of the day neither of these issues will stop me from using this great mod! Many thanks for the hard work and time.:D
