If you spell in german it would almost be like the above:roll:

Give Hitler suffered (and those around him as a consequence) from extreme, excessive flatulence, it might have meant a number of things, or been a mis-translation....

Mybe "thatwindisoff"? "Withtheoffwind"?

Perhaps Sailor Steve, with his apparent enjoyment of quotations (which I salute) could suggest something along the lines of:

"It's an ill wind that blows......"

Deimos01 11-03-06 06:04 PM

Well, Deimos refers to astronomy and mythology both of which I have an interest in. In astronomy terms Deimos is one of the moons of mars along with Phobos.

In mythological terms, Mars is the god of war and his dogs are Phobos and Deimos which mean fear and pestilence. You've all heard the old Shakespear quote, "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war". That is what he is referring to. So I was able to combine two of my small hobbies and come up with a name I've been using for several years now.

I woulda used Phobos but the first board I ever signed up for, that name was already taken.

i wanted something cool to do with uboats (iron/steel) + some sort of water creature (turtle is too timid, dolphins are flippers and fish is just lame), so i went with Whale. thus 'The Iron Whale' was born... i like it the more i think of it, not sure if it's correct gramatically though.

classic

I seem to remember once instance where the Germans were on the lookout for escaped POWs, and while on a train the undercover German was chatting up the suspected escapee, nattering away in German. After a bit he looked about as if looking for something, then looked at the suspect and asked, in English, "Do you have the time?"

The escapee lifted up his arm to peer at his wristwatch . . . then stopped dead. Busted! He hadn't even needed to say anything in reply, just the fact he reacted as he did was enough to give him away.

dead thread, I command you to live!

It's pretty interesting, really...

I chose mine from a classic sci-fi novel by Gerard Klein, "Les seigneurs de la guerre" (The Overlords of War). Aergistal is some kind of space-time anomaly where battles are perpetually fought, a game played by beings close to gods.

Sort of like we do with war games, but on a much bigger/deadlier/bug free scale :DL

I simply used my real name, can't really say any more than that! :88);)
...other than I was lacking imagination for a name at the time *sigh*

Platapus 06-23-10 04:31 PM

Many many years ago I used the user name Platypus on websites. For one site there was a defunct user named Platypus, but I could not use the same name so I changed it to Platapus. It just got to be a habit.

Nothing deeper than that, I am afraid.

Nothing wrong with resurrecting a necrothread when it's a good one. Maybe there will be more newcomers adding their stories to it now.

This thread went way down just before I joined.

Why privateer?

I used other online names for years.
Going back farther then most would imagine.
Around 1992 I used Jagwire
Before that?
:haha:
That information could get me in trouble!

Anyway, at some point in time.
I started a business that pretty much followed the code of Privateers.

So I became Privateer.
