Lightship Tonnage
Does anyone have any thoughts on what would be a good tonnage for the LightShip? Currently, I have it set at 756 GRT.
|
The Carpentaria (the lightship which I posted for you to look at) weighs 164 tonnes. The ship is revitted steel and it servied in Bass Straight, so it's no fairweather ship.
Maybe a good tonnage would be around 500 tons or so. |

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...elife/PC-1.jpg Generic Liner A. A vessel that would have had larger and better accommodation space than a freighter, as well as a higher top speed; however, it's still a step below one of the famous liners. 10,000 GRT. Unfortunately the No. 2 stack is a dummy, since I don't know how to hex in a functioning one. It will be assigned to the UK and Commonwealth, US, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Japan, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, and Sweden. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...elife/PC-4.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...elife/PC-3.jpg Generic Liner B. Old-fashioned medium liner based on a ship from Silent Hunter 2. Larger and faster than the ship above. It will be about 12,000-15,000 GRT and will serve the UK, Canada, France, Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...elife/PC-5.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...elife/PC-6.jpg Generic Liner C. 15,000-20,000 GRT. It's based on large liners that the British used on routes between the UK and its colonies before the war. The paint scheme is for P & O. This ship will only be used by the larger, more established companies-hence, fewer nationality assignments. Like the other two it has a dummy stack; it also has two dummy propellers since it would just be weird to have such a large ship with one screw. Nations: UK, US, Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Italy, Netherlands. With a few modifications these ships can also be used as armed merchant cruisers and transports. |
Nice one. Is there anyone out there who can help you with hexediting?
|
Excellent work!!!(switching to waterproof keyboard, as drool kept shorting the old ones out).
This will be inculded in the Mod pack that you are doing? Still aiming for a Christmas release.... |

Passenger Vessels
Iambecomelife, those passenger vessels are simply amazing.:o I would recommend you keep the two funnels, as they give the ship a far better silhouette than one (although one would look good as well). I hope you find out how to hex edit the .dat to another funnel as a .obj - I did the same thing as you to add a second funnel but would like to know the full process.
BTW - did you mention Swedish passenger liners? I didn't know Sweden had passenger liners (I don't know too much about the Swedish merchant). I may be hijacking this thread though...:shifty: While we're on the topic of your ships Iambecomelife, are you planning on releasing that Perth class CL as an individual unit, or is it going to be saved for your mercant pack? |
JUST REALISE THE FREKING MOD ALLREADY!!!!:damn:

Hi
The second funnel, is a indipendent .obj in .dat file, with a its id.
After you must change the .sim file, were you must have one portion of data, in the reference id of the second funnel. BEST REGARDS UBOAT234 |
A preview of an WWI old timer I finished for GWX.
I used Gerome_73s Graf Spee as a base. Excellent and flawless model! Many thanks to Ref for UVMapping, Cdre Gibs for 3dhints and guns advices, Boris for the skin and AG124 for his continuous support. RHN Georgios Averof (Pisa Class Armoured Cruiser / Panzerkreuzer). WWII paint scheme http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/6404/averofsc2.jpg Actual WWII pic: http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/1087/picture1ec3.jpg Some history: WWI Era The ship was launched on March 12, 1910 and sailed in Faliron, near Athens, on September 1, 1911. Averof was at the time the most modern and powerful ship in the navies of either the Balkan League or the Ottoman Empire. As such, with the outbreak of the First Balkan War she took part, as the flagship of the Hellenic Royal Navy. During the naval battles at Elli (December 3, 1912) and Lemnos (January 5, 1913) against the Ottoman Navy, she almost single-handedly secured victory and the undisputed control of the Aegean Sea for Greece. WWII Era After Germany's attack against Greece in 1941 and the collapse of the front, the ship's crew disobeyed the orders to scuttle the ship to avoid capture by the Germans, and sailed to Alexandria to join the Allied forces, under constant German air attacks along with the remaining Greek fleet. From August 1941 to the end of 1942, the ship was assigned to convoy escort and patrol duties in the Indian Ocean, based at Bombay. After that she returned to Port Said, where she was used as a headquarters ship, and was assigned to harbour protection missions. Today She is preserved as a museum in Athens, Greece. The ship is still regarded as in active service. Every Hellenic Navy ship entering or sailing in Faliron Bay honours the Averof while passing; every man on decks stands to attention, officers saluting, looking to the side where the Averof is in sight until "Continue" is ordered.
