Bacon and sausage.

I'll make a start on the Mediterranean peppers.

Neal, you had mentioned about getting a crossbow; I'm thinking of picking one up for myself to make for longer seasons (turkey and deer). Did you pick a specific model out?

Onkel Neal 07-22-21 09:14 AM

Hi Chad, yes, I did a little research, there seems to be a lot of choices for ~$300 - $500 that are accurate and good quality. Barnett, Excalibur, and Killer Instinct were at the top of my list and I went with the Barnett Assault 350. It was around $275 and I can say it is good enough for my purposes.

Getting ready...

Not really a "hunt", more like an ambush. :shucks:

Need to clarify what I meant by treating animal decently.

I know that there are times when a person has to kill an animal for some reason(as long it isn't for fun)But the killing shall be quick, the animal shall not know what hit it. Whatever the animal has done or is doing it does not have to suffer minutes or hours before it dies.

Markus,

As one who uses Air Guns and not Powder Burners?
I insure what you would call a Humane kill shot.

We call it DRT. Dead Right There.
No tracking a wounded animal. No follow up shots to a suffering animal.

1 Shot. 1 kill on the spot.

Last night was a bust. Pigs played me, nothing but pests set off my alarm.

Will try again tonight. Come on, pigs, nothing to be afraid of. Just come to the buffet.:arrgh!:

Those highly intelligent, cagey porcine critters send in an advance scouting squad of expendible 'coons just to test the waters....:hmmm: Nice camera-work but what causes the reflection in the animal's retinas?

AVGWarhawk 07-23-21 11:42 AM

If you see retina like this I suggest you sell the property and move elsewhere:

If I see that, I'm reaching for my .30-30. :O:

I'm sure the neighbors will understand when I show them the carcass.

-> so "dress them out" would be a better term than "disemboweling" i guess?

Either term is fine with me. I generally don't remove the guts on a wild hog, the ribs and belly don't have enough fat to make it worth the trouble. On deer, yeah, I dress them out completely.

One term I don't care for is "harvest" and is, "I am harvesting wild game." Harvesting is something you do with grains and vegetables, animals are shot and slaughtered, or processed. I don't know who started "harvesting" or why, but I suspect it was to tone down the bloodiness for the newer generations...?

:har::haha: Hell man, I would be burning rubber outta there!

It started with human internal organs I would say.
