Patrol 19, setting out from Brest. Got 2 large merchants alone of the Spanish Coast on the way to CG87 for patrol. Finished them both with the deck gun. One blew completely apart, a nice night explosion. Patroled for 24 hours with no contacts so I decided to see the Rock of Gilbraltor for the first time. On the way in at night I encountered a 9 merchant convoy with 3 Flower Corvettes. Got between 2 of them and fired 4 torpedoes. 3x at a C2 and 1x at a Coastal Merchant. Please to report 4 hits recorded and both ships sank. 2 of the Flowers tried to locate me, but i slipped away north under the remaining merchants. Found 2 Large Merchants together with no convoy. Fired 4x torpedoes at them (2 for each). the M30 went down quickly, but the M08 must have been another styrofoam hauler. Took 4 torpedoes to sink it as the waters were to rough for the deck gun. Heading back to Brest due to a lack of fish and found a Coastal merchant by the Northwest Coast of Spain. Sank it with the deck gun and some idiot named Bernard and a Mauser 98. He is demanding credit for the sinking. 7 ships sunk for 31,000 tons. Head back to brest. get within 25 miles of the port and end patrol and a M*&^%*(er F*&^#$#ing CTD again. I am getting sick of them. So I head back out on Patrol 19 again. Encounter a Coastal Merchant of the west coast of Spain and engage with the deck gun. After I sink it, I F12 to watch it sink and it CTD's again.
That's it. I have had enough, going to bed. I am getting very tired of the CTD's. Capt Scott Von Ainz U-75 Type VIIb should be 209,000 tons, but instead 178,000 tons. |

I hope you get the CTD's sorted with your new GWX install. In the meantime, I'd be saving periodically during the patrol so you only lose the tail end of it. Hang in there mate and good hunting! :salute: |

1) Never save when you are submerged. 2) Never save when your time compression is above 1X 3) Never save if any other vessels have spawned. How can you tell? 3a) Run the time compression up to 1024X. If there are any other vessels in your world, your progress across the map will be jittery. 3b) Zoom in fully on your boat in map view. If there are any other vessels in your world, the display may bog down and respond slowly. 3c) Submerge to 20m or so, shut off the engines, go to the hydrophone station, and do a slow 360d sweep. The player can usually hear vessels long before their crew will report them 4) Never save if you are closer that 50km from land - or maybe it's further. Especially - don't save if there is any kind of harbor within that distance. Failure to observe these rules may result in a CTD, and note that once a game-save has been corrupted, all subsequent saves based on it will also be corrupt. Did I miss anything? BTW Scott, your exploits in this thread make for some very enjoyable reading. I think you may well make it to May 7th, 1945 |
Thank you Captain. I will do that with the saves. I have lost 2 big Patrols now near port with CTD's when i exit patrol.
I have never been past Patrol #7 before this career. It is a fluke. I have only encountered 2 convoys. If you notice before I have only had 1 warship sunk. (well a flak gun kill on an Elco doesnt make 2 kills) I have a great streak of luck with finding ships with NO escorts at all. I avoid the channel (take the long way when i was out of the Wilm and Kiel.) My biggest problem is aircraft. I have taken a direct hit on my stern once, didnt lose any people, but sure damaged the boat, right outside the approaches to Brest. On a good note, I have the "Living Sub Hunter" mod. My IT guy downloaded the 7 parts for me. I asked him to get GWX, but I wont complain. I won't be loading it until this career ends, one way or the other. I am sure I need to load it on a fresh install. Scottj63 Home to the Philippines in 10 days, no more Afghanistan for nearly a month. |

Have a safe trip and enjoy the leave! :woot: |
Damn, i had to delete Patrol 18 and 19 saves, when i would start the next mission the graphics would go black and it would CTD. had to start in port for Patrol 18. ITS A TIME WARPPPPPPPPP. I thought my game was corrupted, but i went to the academy and the missions loaded perfect graphically.
Thanks Fish, looking forward to seeing my wife and son. I work 95 days on 25 days off. We are heading to Thailand for a week (she is in college and that is all she can miss). So should be a fun trip. Back to Patrol 18. Scottj63 |
After being an unwilling victim of a Time Warp, Patrol 18 was just completed (again). Found a lone merchant in rough seas to the northwest of Spain. The C2 took 2 eels to sink. Went to Patrol CF61 as ordered and as soon as I arrived found a HUGE convoy. Biggest I have seen to date. Looked to be 18 merchants/Tankers with 4 Hunt Destroyers. I used my normal method of going between 2 escorts to get to the convoy, BUT this time I made a mistake. I didn't see a Hunt coming in from the left until it was to late. I fired 4 torpedoes at it at 800 meters to hopefully throw off his run on me and crash dived. The tactic worked, he veered off and the 4 torpedoes ran into the convoy causing havoc (3 meters G7a impact) Did you know that ships in a convoy can collide? I have never seen that. Slowed two C-2's down to 3 knots. I avoid the Hunts that were pinging me and went up to periscope depth. Right away i was detected. Fired 4 more torpedoes into the convoy (targeted one of the slowed C-2's with a big spread on them to hopefully hit another ship also) and dived deep again. Got hit by depth charges for the first time, destroyed my periscope (forgot to lower) my deck gun and flak gun, Hull at 82%. 2 torpedoes hit though and one of the C-2's sank. I avoided the Hunts again and surfaced hoping to find a dead ship from the other torpedo but no luck, they were all gone. 1 torpedo left with no deck gun. Time to head back to Brest. I tell Bernard to go fix the deck gun, that should keep him out of trouble for awhile. We find a lone M08 so down to periscope depth to get a solution. BERNARD, DIVING MEANS GET IN THE BOAT, NOT ON THE BOAT. Hit the M08 dead amidships with a 9m magnetic hit. It slows but doesn't sink. Such is war. We head back to Brest and end the patrol. 2 ships sunk, 12,600 tons and first time we were actually in serious trouble. Good lessons learned.
Capt. Scott Von Ainz (BERNARDDDDDD, LEAVE THE GRAPE NEHI'S ALONE) |
Well Patrol 18 is the end of the career of Capt. Scott von Ainz. Every time I start Patrol 19 the game graphics go black if i go to any screen other than the map. So I am deleting all the saves and starting over.
Scottj63 |
On my third patrol after having to delete my last career do to Patrol 19 CTD's. I am in a Type IIa and i torpedoed a 7000 ton merchant 4 times including 2 magnetic keel shots at 1149am. It is now 230am the following day and I am still watching the ship. There are 5 fires burning and 2 are huge now. it started with one small fire. I wonder if it will sink and I wonder how long it will take. I will post if it goes down. It better though, i have 2470 renown and i want in a Type VIIb for next patrol.
The ship sank at 707am the following day. so 19.5 hours after i torpedoed it. I guess patience pays off (laughing) scottj63 |
Scott....I hope this post will be of some eventual long lasting use to you, can you list your system specs and the game version you are using as well as any mods you have enabled?

Your system specs look fine but you've a lot of mods there. With JSGME you could have uninstalled them then reininstalled individually until the fault reared its ugly head. A PITA I know but I'd perform a second installation and add JSGME from here: http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/sof...cts-jsgme.html Then enable one additional mod at a time. |
i have been sitting with a ship for 33 hours to see if it will sink. I hit it with a keel shot. It slowed to 3 knots then 1 knot, then stopped. Huge fire burning around the bridge. Water is to rough for my deck gun. Let's see if it goes down.
