Well, I have thought about Win 7 but I will probably wait until Win 9. After all, XP is only 10 years old, and it still works perfectly, specially with all my old games.

And I hear migrating from XP to 7 is sheer work.

I can't speak for installing Win 7 on a machine that was previously running XP, but my new rig has Win 7 on it and I haven't run into any problems, aside from the SH3/Starforce deal. I just went and spent the $10 to get the Steam version of SH3 and all is well. All my printers/cameras/etc work fine.

7 takes a bit of getting used to, but it's fine by me so far.

Ha! I never noticed the red "X", after looking at the banner the first time I've never looked at it again since but thanks for the tip!

LOL, I hear you, felt the same way for awhile. But I've upgraded two machines from XP with no issues at all and very little work, a 3rd from Vista and my laptop from Vista also. If you have the newer hardware it really blows XP out of the water. My gaming rig- EVGA 790i FTW, Core2Quad Q9550 @3.83, EVGA GTX295 191.07s, 2x150gb WD Raptors, 2x200gb SATA, 8gb G.Skill DDR3 1600, OCZ 700W PS, HP DVD-RW, Onboard sound, 32" Sony Bravia XBR, Win7 Pro 64bit, Tai Chi watercooled case really benefits from the extra ram and the multicore CPU with a 64bit OS really can't compare to what XP had to offer. All IMHO of course but I don't regret switching and haven't run into any issues with any of my games so far. For older games I've run all the Total War series, UFO:ET, and IL-2 is still played 3x/week with my squad and they all perform better than I remember with XP. But I'm a tinkerer when it comes to computers and like a challenge every now and then. :D

Anyway, so as not to be too far off topic of this thread, how about a new video Neal?!?
;) :ping:

I recently upgraded straight from Windows XP (sp3) to Win 7. It was a tremendous pain in the arse and I nearly blew a blood vessel... until I figured out how to make it easy.

The OS is extremely sensitive for some reason to the type of DVD used for the install. Use the wrong format, and fail - it is quite maddening.

If you burn your ICO or install files onto a DVD+RW, you should do just fine. DVD+R format may work. DVD-R will fail.

Once installed, Win 7 is groovy. You can ensure backwards compatibility with a simple right click - including XPsp1, XPsp2, XPsp3, Win 95, 98, NT, 2000, etc.

Dangerous Waters works fine. SH4 works fine. I like the new OS.

agreed, but i do have an issue or two with win 7

i have a habit of swapping out my desktop image about once a week so its something different but with win 7 every time you change your desktop image it resets all your window color and transparency settings and it removes your screen saver too so you have to redo all those anytime you change the desktop. its total nonsense to have this happen because they all have nothing to do with each other.

you also have no way to adjust the amount of space used for system restore or be able to turn it off to clear it in case of viruses or leftover crap in old restores. i can live without control over the size of the restore files but i should be able to delete old restore files that might have sleeper viruses in them at my control and not have them perminently saved until one day when it finally gets removed or replaced.

Wow, that is a very mixed review.
Is PT boats worth the money?

Onkel Neal 02-19-10 08:34 AM

This is a game I honestly think is only worth a bargain price, the $20 range at most.
