Perhaps we need a Japanese Merchant Marine (JMM) thread...

My first attempt at a Wartime Standard Hull for the JMM. Obviously she still needs a transom, etc.

Real Type 2D:

The 2D is the "Steel Sea Truck" aka "Sugar Charlie Sugar." 103 were built.

A very similar 3d year Type 3D (the number is the year of the building program):

Tater and Sergei - on one hand it is so exciting that the badly neglected and inadequate merchant ship selection is being improved in quality, quantity, and accuracy - on the other hand, it is like torture seeing these beautiful screenshots and not being able to hunt them!

:D

You're off to a great start with the standard building program, Tater. Can't wait to see where you go with this.

Here is a pic:

I want the bow to look more like:

I was hoping to just grab a bunch of vertices, then squish it... doesn;t work well :)

Is there a way to intersect it with a V shape, and subtract?

I would select and move the vertices till I got the shape i want - but i use 3ds I don't know if you can do that with wings3d

Was thinking of just replacing the hull with a real one :)

very rough. Needs loads of work. Superstructure is stolen from a stock SH4 model for now. Still, looks like a 2D, and is the right size (she displaces rather too much compared to an earlier build, needs a little scaling).

Probably belated but another view of a passenger/cargo ship with the two-tone green anti-submarine camouflage measure:

Tater, do you think either of these ships could be imported from SH3? Look broadly similar to standard classes.

I found them in this thread:

The download links are dead but perhaps AG124 (the creator?) or someone else still has the files?

I looked at these a long time ago, and rejected them.

Raised 1, engines aft?

Those are really odd looking ships, to my eye. The worst thing is the long forecastle. That's just weird.

I did just come up with some new eye candy, though.

Mwhahah.

Is it just me, or do most all the SH4 ships seem to ride too deep in the water?

I find that they don't ride deep enough, but luckily Mr. Torpedo fixes that. Seriously, they all ride like they are fullt laden with iron ore. Would be nice to have some on the roster than were 'light cargoed'.

Done already ;)

(with clones, so it will vary)

Not technically, but it's damn cool!

:D

I'll happily work to get any real japanese ships in game :)

Nice work Miner.
