Be nice to eachother, we are a team not in a barfight..! NOT :rotfl: Still working on comparing the scene.dat and looking into the change Swdw did, it looks like it allso makes the sun smaller when it's sun set / rise, so I think we have to make a compromise between having nice sun sets with a big sun or having ATI cards working.. Or have two versions. MM I will send the new scene.dat to you so you can see if the change helped with your observation.

kriller2 01-16-08 06:47 PM

MM you should have the scene with ATI fix now

Check your PM and tell me if it works okay?

Now back to the task at hand. Off to test in a few :yep:

Ok, using Foo's scene with skwasjer's 2 fixes, jiggling water much improved, I am at a 5 meter wind speed. Very nice :yep:
Edit: At 0 it does seem to be a little more noticeable as mentioned below. At higher speeds hardly noticeable.

If I look carefully, I see it when I move slowly with freemove cam. If I just stand on the conning tower, it's not visible at all. It's most obvious in calm weather, when the reflection is the highest I guess. In rough seas it's not very visible or almost non-existend because of the foam and less reflection. It is still there but I really don't notice it as much. In anyway, the jiggle is much much less than the original (bugged) file.

A couple of other things I noticed (mind you, I'm relatively new to ROW so these may be known things):
  • In high seas, if I use my bino I don't see alot of high waves at fairly short distance. Can something can done about this? Probably a performance/visual compromise I guess? Can be best seen in freecam, set TC=0 and then move away from where you paused. Doesn't take alot of distance for the waves to flatten out.
  • If I look 180deg the sea looks very dull (daytime). Not sure how to explain. Might need a screenshot, but I haven't taken any of it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very impressed by the whole mod in general

I love the foam and clouds, it's just awesome.

Here some shots:

Sunrise facing the sun

This shot is same location/time as previous, but at ~160deg away from sun.

Sunset, encountering a convoy

There's one sinking (not of previous convoy ;))

Amazing if you ask me... It looks just to damn real :sunny:

Personally both scene.dat files work great and I would release the new corrected scene.dat file for others. Either just the scene.dat or the entire texture/scene.dat as a the final version. It is up to you guys tweaking. Let me know the link and I will edit the link for it in the ROW thread.

I am betting that of twenty six letters in the english alphabet you could
probably recognize a K for obvious reasons, then again its you were talking
about here.

It's a known fact that the english language also includes punctuation marks. We're picky about their use, too:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I Love it, I yield your point sir.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I think maybe because we are doing this in Dave's memory folks just want to be sure that all is up to snuff so to speak before it is released. That being said, when is anything ever finished in the world of mods\modding

I sent kriller a PM last night with regards to some of the key areas still being worked on ( what folks are posting here ) and a few suggestions on how to best go about dealing with them as we continue to do this.

IMHO, I think most folks would like to have the updated file released now, as it sounds it's fairly "up to snuff" (at least based on the most recent comments).

The way I see it, community feedback would be much more benificial compared to a handful of other players.

As you say RDP "...when is anything ever finished in the world of mods\modding?" :yep:

Those who knew Dave, had the chance to work with him, knew that he was a perfectionist, folks here working on this want to be sure we honor this. That being said, I am sure it won't be to long now :yep::up:

Dave loved this community, SUBSIM, he would not want folks to go without for long.

Well said, RDP. The only response I could think of was "Amen" on both points. He would have wanted it correct and quick and, somehow, he managed to balance the two very well.

Both points well taken...I (we) should be grateful his vision continues.

Relax, in every project there is a testing phase to be sure every possible situation is taken care of with new work. I feel like I am on timeschedule here...! If this is Dave's last contribution to the subsim members he loved it got to be perfect! no forget about that, it has to be more than perfect and I don't want to release a half-done addon to ROW if there are issues that needs to be looked into.

This addon will be released SOON (tm)

Don't get me wrong kriller. I appreciate your (and the teams) work on this. I guess I'm just a little anxious.
