Speaking of galaxies, in celebration of the 21st anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope’s deployment into space, astronomers pointed Hubble at the galaxy group Arp 273. Arp 273 lies in the constellation Andromeda and is roughly 300 million light-years away from Earth.

Funny how the stuff we put in space gets such good mileage. I probably couldn't get a car to last 21 years.

That may of been the most beautiful i have ever seen in my short life.

The difference is rust.

[edit] And it helps if you can do a lap around the earth in no shorter than about 90 minutes. ;)

Thanks for sharing , that really is quite beautiful.

What a beautiful place we live, this third stone from the Sun.

Thank you for sharing the link!

Sorry to pee on this guys parade, but there is absolutely no way those star shots where taken from the same place as the landscape/clouds. They look more like sweeps over Hubble telescope shots to me.

Yeah, I had the same thought; none the less, 'shooped or no, there's still some pretty stuff in those.

onelifecrisis 04-22-11 05:10 PM

That was awesome, thanks Armistead.

I agree it's pretty, but don't be trying to pass it off as unedited video footage of the sky.

onelifecrisis 04-22-11 09:33 PM

Shopped you say? Yeah, could be. I just watched it again and at 02:53 there's a shot where the stars rotate about a fixed point in the visible sky. Either I'm being dim or that should not be possible in Spain...

[Edit]
Nevermind, I was being dim. Long hours, don't mind me.

best music video ever made

Not a country music fan but good on him anyway I just watched the video something creepy about it - in a good way though, it is quite a good video.

And at least The Prodigy made it into the final 10.

Johnny Cash - Hurt

Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt has been named the best music video of all time.

British music magazine NME named the clip, which was released in 2002 and featured the late country singer performing the song on acoustic guitar, at the top of its list of the 100 best music videos.
NME said: "The montage of shots of Cash served a poignant purpose at the time; after Johnny's death seven months later it became even more powerful. A fitting audiovisual epitaph."

NME's Top 10 music videos of all time:

3. Wicked Game - Chris Isaak
4. Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden
5. All Is Full Of Love - Bjork
6. Everlong - Foo Fighters
7. Buddy Holly - Weezer
8. Sabotage - Beastie Boys
9. Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa - Sigur Ros
10. Smack My Bitch Up - The Prodigy

:yawn::yawn::yawn::yawn:

Is there a video on this list, other than Wicked Game, more than 10 years old?

Hurt was poignant, but best, or even top 10?

IMO, which is all these lists ever are, the golden age of the music video was over by 1990. Everything since has been retreaded, repackaged, been there, done that tripe. Some of it is good tripe, but tripe nonetheless.

The video that launched hip-hop from the streets to suburban living rooms, Run DMC's Walk This Way, doesn't even make the list?

:nope::nope:

Not necessarily a big travesty.
Just going on the list there, i'd go for Bjork, she is just awesome and the Prodigy rock as well.
I always loved the Van Halen videos, when Dave Lee Roth was jumping around and doing his scissor kicks.
He was a true showman!

I have this video by Johny cash, brilliant. I wonder as I watch it from time to time if its not a reflective look at his own life, what ever it is, it's most definintely from the great mans heart.

Armistead 07-06-11 11:18 AM

Cash lived with a nerve disease the last several years causing much pain, I think that connected well with the song, along with hurt from his past. I think his death soon after gave the video such a connection to people.
