Hey Tomi, sorry to be a little late to that discussion.

Your work is the best example of what a modder can hope to achieve. I know a bit of 3d graphics myself, mostly organic modeling. Modeling might sound almost mystical to most gamers but I know it's quite simple. However, going thorugh hundreds of pictures and working with thousands of objects is anything but simple. Any dev team, not just Ubi's would be put to shame by your patience. I would never have such patience .

By your comment, did you mean that UBI never contacted you? If I were on the managment team, I would've payed you for your superior model and saved my team from months of work. I hope they didn't think "well, let's make a simple 3d room for SH5, they'll manage to integrate Tomi's interiors later anyway".

Although there are few of us romanians here on the forum, not all of us work at Ubi, or would like to work at Ubi. I don't have any info on the team, but many of my university colleagues worked as game testers there (at Gameloft to be more precise), about 5-6 years ago. The hours were long and the pay sucked. Much more recently, EA Romania fired it's entire Game Tester team. I had a friend there who worked for 9-10 hours per day and was payed less than 200 euros per month. I don't want to start a political debate here, but in a developing country with failing moral values, foreign corporatins here don't bring anything good, they just take and leave. Although I've finished the Computer and Automatics Unviersity I've decided to join the merchant navy (not the romanian one as it no longer exists). The lifestyle might be strange, but the pay and respect are better than anything I can hope to recieve here (through legal and moral methods).

Silent Hunter is not well known in Romania. When it appeared a few years ago, there was a local hype of "OMG, romanians can do a game?! OMG, and it's not a crap game? WOW". But the game didn't sell here (and not only from piracy). Most romanians play CounterStrike, World of Warcraft and Command and Conquer. But since one game here costs about 80 euros, and any teenager that gets a job can't expect to get more than 300 euros (while their parents might earn around 500), you can bet that they'll invest 2000 euros in a computer but never buy a game. That's how things work here. They download about one pirated game per day, play it for 20 minutes, then delete it and go back to Warcraft. Piracy is here to stay, if they crack down on it, all the IT vendors will suffer from loss of sales. And recently they just did, because of game consoles. Most of my friends now have switched to XBOX (XBOX has been cracked for years) because they hate upgrading their PC's every year. The fact that I have more than 30 original games (all sims or final fantasy games) with boxes on my shelf makes me a rarity among my friends and is because I've been playing games since 1990 and have witnessed the glory of pc gaming, back when each game was unique, the rise of the simulators and the fall of sim giants like Microprose and Looking Glass. Flight Unlimited 2 will always be my favourite sim, no matter what the future comes up with.

@karamazovnew

People thet everything what our friendly karamazovnew here says is true.

It is tragic and cannot find words, it makes me more thoughtful.

Each discuses that I would open up, would be to one fiasco and
we are powerless.

I have to leave Bosnia in 1990 then I heard about this saw
Romania and I have noticed that until today has not changed very much.

It is a tragedy, and whether the EU is a light for the Romanian folk or
a slap in the face, we'll see.

This report, therefore I am very impressed with the response took a little longer.

I thank you karamazovnew.

wowowow, just a sec there, I never blamed the EU. Corporations are corporations and they do what they do. And governments will always suffer from corruption, especially the romanian one (check out the latest voting presence percentages to see how much we "trust" them). And in any country, some have it better than others. I have a good Pc, a nice apartment and a beautiful car (Toyota Corolla Hatchback 2006, british made, bought new). I don't yet live in a kraphole. The EU is a light that too many Romanians have tainted with what they do and how they behave. Our government deserves as many slaps in the face from EU as I'd like to give them (altough I'd prefere to kick them in the balls, or medieval torture).

So chin up

Now back to topic.
With SH5 now such a big issue and the GWX 4 mod abandoned, I realise that Tomi's interiors come to my mind again and again. With no doubt, they are a true masterpiece as they are now, but we must think about the future.

So, once SH5 will come out, I wonder, how much of the GPU will the Ubi interiors take up... We'll see then. But think about it, every time anyone would want to add something to the SH5 3d interior, where would he look first? At Tomi ofc. I already regard them as a sort of template. The positioning, the textures, the detail, they're all perfect. Maybe in a few years we'll have the hardware to run all of it with dynamic lights and Ambient Occusion. Tomi, can you make up a render without baked textures? Maybe with Ambient Lighting and Global Illumination and full quality settings. I'd love to see how it looks. :yeah:

That is if it ever gets released.
And if that's in GWX's hands, having a new SH title coming soon, I bet they're not gonna want to waste their time, specially given the fiasco that SH4 was compared to SH3, the only really good things SH4 has are time compression, graphics, and the US subs. So it'd be logical to drop any works on SH4 as it's already been said that GWX4 has been dropped.

I think only a miracle will provide us with such complex materials for SH4 now.

Luckily enough, there's already some good mods on the scene, so the SH4 fiasco isn't so much, now that it ain't a standalone, but a title that gets some good works released on the short-scheduling schemes that have always represented the smaller packs. It's not like I've done as many hours in SH4 as I did in SH3, but I can say there's some stuff that's worth trying.

So, a "Good job!" to all those modders, please.

Cheers

Holy $@(*!!! I thought I knew it from the images, but seeing it in motion is freakin awesome!!!. Your camera clip distance was a bit large but it's a good excuse for seeing the toilet :haha:.
SO.. again... when do we get to play it?!!!

Uber Gruber 09-15-09 07:59 AM

Absolutely amazing.....hats and petticoats off to you Tomi.

If UBI don't pay you to use the model in SH5 then they should walk the plank.

:yeah:

I am glad that you like it, ( @kamarazovnew , @ Uber Gruber )
And give the POWER the UBISOFT DEVELOPER TIME

The spiritual motivation to give it, even better!
In any case, I'm looking forward to Silent Hunter V.

Perhaps it is the jump is still years from SH2 to SH3,
and perhaps these people are still living at once, as Rubini, Racerboy ,Mickhayl,Fubar
here to SUBSIM live and have been trembling.

I look forward to!

:yeah:
