Oh, and by the way, the sig isn't really cut out, I just made the background color the same as the forum background color.:|\\

danlisa 10-11-06 03:01 PM

The photo looks good & if the rest of your images are of the same quality/detail then we are all in for a treat:rock:

Using the same colour as the forum is a neat trick. Good thinking:cool:

I would like to remind you that the maximum allowed size for a signature image is 400x120 pixels (please use JPG and GIF only, no PNG). Itīs ok if itīs a bit wider or a higher than that. The signature, including text, should not exceed a height of 150 pixels. Smaller signatures = less scrolling and faster loading times.

This is a 400x120 image:

A signature, including text, shouldnīt be higher than this (150 pixels):

Having just re-read it myself, I find that I have been over size on the ones I've made. Opps

Thanks Gizzmoe,

I had posted the link earlier. I think that 'some' people realize that there sig's are over size and trying to correct that.;)

I do realize that the one I've made for people recently have been 420x120. This was an error on my part, but does this come under the part where "it maybe slightly wider or higher than that..."?

I'll hate to have to redo them

Yep, 420x120 is fine. The most important thing is that the signature isnīt too high.

No comment...:damn::damn::damn:

Danlisa, care trying to get a good shot of a BIG MILITARY SHIP (not a carrier) being sunk, but use your newly gained skills (making the pic look old).

THX for trying! (if you even will)

danlisa 10-12-06 02:10 PM

Hi Res,

Sure I will, if this is for your new sig, do you want the same text on it?

Sure thing! :)

Res, this is a Revenge meeting a rather explosive end...

What do you think?:hmm:

I think the explosion makes the sig too bright once the effects have been applied.

I have to agree with you on that one. You can barerly see the ship. The effects are sweet and everything else is also, but if you think you can do it better, there is no way I'm going to stop you.

And yeh, it is too bright.

danlisa 10-13-06 07:55 AM

I'll see what I can do:up:

Gizzmoe 10-13-06 08:23 AM

Danlisa, Iīve noticed that the signatures you make are quite big in filesize. Yours is 71KB for example. That doesnīt sound much, but it takes about 15 seconds to load for 56k users. Please use a higher JPG compression. Iīve resaved your sig with Irfanview at 85% quality, it was then five times smaller than your current sig and there was no quality loss. The same for Albrechtīs sig: 65KB before, 15KB after.

danlisa 10-13-06 08:36 AM

No problem, I'll repost everyone's sigs tonight at a reduced filesize. A question though, I use PS CS2 and when I save as JPG it offers a compression percentage (1-12) I always choose an approx value of 8. CS2 tells me that this will take a 56k user between 1-3 secs and a 512k user approx 0.25 secs. I 'm curious as to whether I should trust these figures if Infranview says different.

I will not argue that if you have a page with an average of 7 sigs at the current compression that a 56k user will have to wait a whopping 21 secs for the page to load. Plus we know how unrealiable dialup is, speed wise.

If I can correct the sigs I have released (and get people to use them) would you consider making this thread a sticky. This will promote correct use of sigs in arguably the most popular area of Subsim. Perhaps you could post your reminder on sig size on the first page.

I am always open to suggestions that will keep Subsim a viable resource for ALL users.

Try a much lower value, or resave them with Irfanview, it has a very good JPG compression algorithm and itīs freeware for non-commercial use.

If a 56K user is lucky he has a transfer rate of 5.5KB/s, so thatīs 13 seconds for your signature. With ISDN about 9 seconds.

Ok.

Thank you very much Gizzmoe! :yep:

@Danslisa:

I belive my second text wish was "GW user on the hunt". Could you change it please in you final version! Thanks!

danlisa 10-13-06 11:29 AM

Hi Res,

Sure I'll change the text for you, I think that I forgot, so sorry.

Ref: Gizzmoe making this thread sticky - he answered OK to me asking him to CONSIDER making this sticky. It will be dependant on whether I can get all sigs I made reduced in file size & the owners using them.;)

danlisa 10-13-06 02:14 PM

As suggested by Gizzmoe, I have reduced the file size of all the sigs I have produced. Scaled from approx 78kb to approx 17kb.

If you would be kind enough to adopt these it will keep this thread 56k friendly.

Note, there is no image quality degredation.
