HMS Antrim, County Class Destroyer

Her helicopter, the Westland Wessex HAS.Mk3, nicknamed "Humphrey", was responsible for the remarkable rescue of 16 SAS men from Fortuna Glacier and the subsequent detection and disabling of the Argentinian submarine Santa Fe

Thanks, she was apparently in use for quite some time.

Now in the Chilean Navy (well she was until 2006)

Quote:

Antrim was decommissioned in 1984 and sold to Chile on 22 June 1984. The Chileans renamed her Almirante Cochrane after Thomas Cochrane, who had commanded the Chilean Navy from 1817 to 1822. In 1994 Almirante Cochrane underwent the same refit as her sister ship Blanco Encalada. This entailed removing her Seaslug launcher and extending her deck aft to allow the installation of a new, larger hangar. In 1996 she received the Barak SAM in place of her Seacat launchers.

Seacat them I remembered, when they were originally, but was replaced by including the Bofors Robotic System 08,during the the time I was at her.

Seacat was pretty ineffective as I recall...I doubt the system ever shot anything out of the sky.

Must check the Falklands links :hmmm:

Must check the Falklands links :hmmm:

But you're right, Seacat was not exactly good, and had a lower success rate, which meant that they were replaced quickly ..... at least in Sweden, :yep:

Ships firing Sea Cat made claims on only one confirmed "kill" of Argentine aircraft an A-4C Skyhawk of FAA Grupo 4 on 25 May (the pilot, Lt Lucero ejected) from over 80 launches.

The missiles were fitted to the four Swedish Östergötland-class destroyers, replacing three Bofors L/70 guns (a more modern and heavier variant than the Royal Navy's L/60) with a single launcher on each ship. The Östergötland-class destroyers of late 1950s origin were retired in the early 1980s.

With respect to your information, so the links have a "wrong", Östergötland class destroyer, was NOT an operational ship as it appears from the link info. But these units were taken out of service in 1978 ... but were part of this war organization, in the event of war or similar.
