SH3Weather

After I ran SH3Weather I got a SH3Weather.txt file in my desktop with the following text:

#2006-02-05 14:08:25#,"1","2","3","7","150","0","2","2","2","1 1",2,1,#FALSE#

Any idea of what its meaning is?

Hi All,

Sorry, I've been unable to post for a couple days, so here goes:

Rubini: I'll balance the formulas to take this into account. I agree that the calm weather is a little too much so! Thanks for the info!

jcalonso: yes I do. It is the log file for SH3Weather, displaying the weather values that were generated by the program. If it is appearing on your desktop, then that means you have the exe in the incorrect place. In the README, it describes the steps to properly install and use. Place the exe in your SH3 folder, then create a shortcut to it to place on your desktop. However, thank you for bringing this up, as I will modify the next build to launch from anywhere you place the exe.

Everyone else: thanks for the feedback, and kind words. I appreciate it!

Cheers,

Jamie

Just a weather thought

One would think that with all the great work Jones did with SH3Commander, that Ubi people would gladly share some insights about the inner workings. Perhaps with a reference from Dean as well.

After all, they came to the forum to seek programmers for the IV version, and have cooperated and paid attention to the subsimmers so far.

Any effort made to get help from them on the inner weather details? :hmm:

Rubini.

Nooooooooo

Let us start our mission with calm seas and sun :sunny:

To enjoy HT, of course

Time for a little weather lesson.

Fog:

Fog only occurs when the water temperture is higher than the air temp. Cold air condenses the humidity from the water into water crystals which form low level clouds aka fog. Also there should be hardly ANY wind. Wind diffuses the fog so if you are planning to have it in your patrol, you need to set the wind speed for no wind.

Wind:

Wind travels in a clockwise rotation in the Atlantic. A circle from the east coast of the States to the european land fall. These are called the trade winds and blow nearly all the time at about 8-10 knots.

Storms:

Storms have been known to last at least a week at times. Mainly during the winter time, cold front after cold front can make the perception that a storm has been raging for weeks when in fact, it was one front passing by and others following shortly after.

All these things happen in the Atlantic ocean as well as in the Med. However the Med gets most of its weather from fronts coming from the north and sand storms raging off the African coast.

Ok, quick question: When using the "manual " settings, are those locked in, or does the weather still change i.e. If I set no rain, no cloud, 0 m/s wind...does it stay that way, or does it randomly change too?

Skweetis 02-16-06 07:17 PM

Raymond: Haven't tried to contact them. Never thought about it... Ill look into it though! :)

Raz: Thanks for the info, every bit helps!

Patboot: No, they are not locked in. They will still change according to the SH3 weather engine. The manual weather will still take the Month into account when generating check interval and rate of change. The manual settings are only what the weather is for the start of the patrol.

Thanks for this mod, I'm really enjoying the variety and ability to depart in different types of weather.

Skweetis 03-07-06 08:35 PM

Hi all,

I should have a final version ready by next week, I havent had any further problems reported, so Im just tweaking and balancing some more. I will submit the final version to SUBSIM.com, so for those of you who have been unable to download from rapidshare, and have waited patiently can get it as well.

Thanks for all your support guys, it is appreciated.

Bump!

baxter 04-09-06 02:56 PM

I just want to make sure I understand how this works...it doesn't overwrite any files, just alters weather values? In other words, it can be used with modded versions of SH3 without conflict?

* Bump - Bump *

Sweetis,

Great mod. I've been using it for my last 2 patrols. This is kind of a bump to the last question, me thinks. I was wondering if this mod affects the wave attenuation changes that were made with GW? Does it only affect the changes in weather at the beginning and during a patrol? Does it have NO affects on wave dynamics?
