Did anyone actually try to run Steam conversion tool prior the Generic Patcher activation? :hmmm:

In theory this should work but only in case if uplay do not automatically download broken SH5 executable again during the game launching...:hmmm:

Looking forward for answer from people who actually understand what I'm talking about here...

Hi vecko
Tonight I download by steam and let you know.
Certainly it's strange after many years they release a patch that only serves to break the moddati games, and in official site no new patches appear...last official is "1.2.0" year 2010.

My bet is they didnt patched SH5 but UPlay and its copy protection, much like Steam and changed the .exe for that reason.

But this is just speculation.

I've posted in Steam - will hopefully find out from Steam users if TWoS is still working.

I will consider purchasing the Steam version if I can be 100% sure it will work with TWoS. I'm just wary of my Ubisoft account somehow interfering with this process.

Seems that Steam version works fine, at least for now... https://steamcommunity.com/app/48110...5174289677690/

Hi D
I don't see why Uplay would need to have copy write protection for it's dpwnload.

It already has control over STEAM and DVD which both have to use Uplay.
I would assume that any Uplay purchase of the game is password protected anyway when the game is bought.

Well, that was AUS $15 well spent!!

Purchased Steam edition, installed TWoS and all is well. No CTD.
Great to have the proper game back.

Only hope Steam does not update as Uplay did, you (unfortunately) can't prevent auto updates.

Harmer, where did you find SH5 for AUS $15 for steam please mate? I can only find a bundle for SH3,SH4 and SH5 for £25, can't seem to find SH5 on its own.

Cheers

Do a "Search" on the store site for "Silent Hunter" instead of being specific. Their search engine seemingly always takes you to the pricier offering... - If you can hold off for a few weeks, they should all being going on a holiday discount, but it will be about four weeks, and the difference usually is not that much, maybe 50% off. :salute:

Noooooooo!!

There has just been a Steam mandatory patch for SH5 @ 545.5mb that has just broken TWoS.

YOU NOW PURCHASE THE STEAM VERSION AT YOUR OWN RISK WITH THE VIEW TO USING THE MEGAMOD WITH IT.

Grrrrrr!!

Why on earth do they need to patch a 12 year old game?

Is this just a STEAM issue or is this the same problem that is happening with the Uplay download as well?

Steam is bound to Ubi at the hip, if they want to continue selling the game... I'll try mine again now, but I just ran the one on my Win10 machine this morning and while there is a daily "search for updates" from Steam, and I did get another Steam update, TWoS ran just fine. I started a new career, and was leaving Memel on patrol... :salute:

I can't figure this.
I had a rotten premonition when I saw that Steam was updating SH5, and sure enough, when I hit play, the initial Ubisoft splash screen came up, which precedes a CTD.
I have refunded the game until I can be sure that I'm not an isolated case.

[EDIT] Confirming that I can start a new campaign without a ctd, but SH5 is now the vanilla version.

If this is true than DVD version is probably next...:hmmm: I really don't understand those charlatans from Ubisoft. It seems that they are trying to kill their own game one more time.

Did you try to do clean reinstall, update everything required and then to apply TWoS? Maybe steam converter sh5.exe replacement could solve the issue?

propbeanie 10-26-19 03:25 PM

OK, I have run my Steam SH5 on the Win7 desktop, and the Win10 laptop (for a 2nd time today), and on both machines, I get a "Steam updating", and on the Win10 machine I got a UPlay update (again), and then had to log-in to my UPlay account. On both machines, the Steam App menu start was fine. On both machines, the SH5.exe start was fine. I have NOT used the Ubisoft Game Launcher on either, neither the 32-bit version, nor the 64-bit version... I try to stay away from those... I do NOT have a UPlay SH5, but I do have a UPlay SH4, and all is well - again, thus far... Are any of you with trouble starting with the 64-bit UPlay? How about, do you have a double log-in 'safety', where you are emailed an access code, that maybe you are missing that dialog? :salute:

Harmer 10-26-19 08:37 PM

@vdr1981
I'm all out of ideas, and Steam has refunded me, so I can't do anything there anymore, all I have now is my vanilla Uplay version.
So I guess it's play that or nothing at this moment in time, for me.
