Okay, enough. Let's not chase people around over spelling and syntax.

Back to my original question :)

As I explained earlier (bending the rules), the hardware seems not to be the issue, but authentication seems to be the issue...
Any similar problems? Anyone?

Maybe the "Item that must not be mentioned" overwrote the Ubi launcher files, to prevent them from looking for the server, breaking the authentication. You have brought this upon youself by using illegal software. Maybe you should look for all ubisoft files and SH5 files and delete them, then reinstall SH5. if that doesnt work then reformat your HD and reinstall your operating system.

Edit.... (Hint) C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher

If piracy is not allowed on Subsim then I respectfully request silent hunter 5 be removed from the forum as it is clearly an attempt by Ubisoft Romania to obtain money by deception, purporting to be a finished working computer game when in fact it is not even close.

I don't think there has ever been a greater case of veiled thievery and deception relating to computer gaming software then Ubisoft Romania's release of Silent Hunter 5.

Its not a great surprise to me that it came from Romania. Along with Russia and the Ukraine, it tops the list for hacking, stealing intellectual property (piracy), extortion, diversion to premium telephone services and other computer related criminal or deceptive enterprises.

It really beggars belief that the rules here protect such a company from financial loss when the funds are generated by what in many countries would be considered criminal or at the least very unethical behavior.

No that's not the case. I tried the "not mentioned" approach only after the Vanilla installation stopped working (and didn't work for 2-3 months). So the problem started with correct installation. Believe me I know what I'm doing :DL

The point of my question is that was my authentication issue common and if it was, does anyone know legal go-around (open some router port, edit some cfg, etc...) for that problem, since I don't want to go to illegal go-around. I did that only to prove my point, that this is authentication issue.

Have you tried uninstalling, deleting all Ubisoft folders. And then reinstalling SH5? Maybe the exe got corupt when it updated??? It's worth a try.

Melendir, I don't think you have an authentication issue as such, because the game tries to authenticate when you start it up and also tries to synch save games at the menu. The game will also check for a connection when you are playing, so the authentication part must be working. I just checked to see if there was something special about the tutorial mission by unplugging the cable, but it notices and complains, so that part also must be using the authentication.

The only thing that I know is different between the tutorial and the proper game is the menu is hidden at the start, does the tutorial work when the menu appears? At what point does it kick you from the tutorial?

No I haven't uninstalled it for a long time. It suddenly stopped working without any changes in my end.

Uninstalling, cleaning and Re-installing might do the trick :)

Been lazy and not doing that and hoping that there could be some known reason for not working.

Tutorial works fine, but after going to first mission after completing the tutorial, the game loads to the point, where you should get control of the sub in 3D world and crashes to desktop.

Same thing if skipping tutorial. The game loads until you would get control and crashes to desktop.

I've been enjoying SH5 for almost a week since I bought it. Even made a micro-mod for it, hehe. Well, untill today, now all that the game is able to say to me is: "The internet connection experiences problems and the current game session was saved.". Of course my internet connection experiences no problems. I wrote to Ubisoft, I even got an answer, quite fast:

Hello,

First of all I would like inform you that the technical support doesn't tolerate abusive language. If you would like any further technical support I suggest you send your request using more appropriate language.

Ubisoft Technical Support
I'm not proud of how I addressed them. Lost my nerves, that's true. The very idea of being dependent on their servers... is just so unbelievably dumb I just can't believe someone devised it. I know that now, when I already have SH5, it's easy to say, but: I won't buy any DRM game again. It's just not worth the frustration. I said that I wouldn't buy SH4 and I didn't buy it, so this time I'll keep my word to myself as well.

DavyJonesFootlocker 09-03-10 04:15 PM

Can I draw that Tech Support person's name since I can't pronounce it?:D:har:

The forum rules are not to protect any software company (legit or otherwise). They are there because the forum owner does not want illegal conduct on his boards, period. Seems pretty damn simple.

EDIT: 'Mate' is quote a modern term isn't it? For your mock style? If you're going to post nonsense, at least post it consistently. God, it's really not that difficult is it? You'd be really boring if you started posting normally, because actually you have nothing to say. Don't flake out on us, we need the comedy factor of your posts. Crank up the mock style, but you know, be consistent, don't go faux pirate, because that's really lame, me hearty.

Still posting out of your arse eh Nisgeis?

Btw if you're going to talk about spelling, you might just want to check your own. ;)
