Up here in the cold weather states it takes a foot of snow just to get school canceled for the day, over a foot to start closing businesses and two or more feet before non essential services shut down. Down in the south it seems that a general panic sets in at about 1 inch of snow.

It is, the worst is not the temperature, it's the wind.

I don't mind going outside at -15°C when it's calm.

But when it's -15°C with 40 km/h (and even more) winds this is really awful. :damn:

yea, lol, down here people do tend to say "HOLY CRAP ITS SNOW" followed by a large BOOM from a car crash.

Guess its cause most get it pretty rarely, and the Department of transportation isnt prepared is some places.:yep:

Aye, getting a fresh coat of snow at the moment; I'd be out taking more photos if it wasn't for the 40-50KMH/25-30MPH winds. :shifty:

Y'know oddly enough the first storm of the season up here always produces a large number of crashes too. It's like somehow even over the short northern summer many of us manage to forget how to drive in the snow.

Powder snow + wind = deathtrap. It blows up against the curbs: 1 second you're trudging through 10cm of snow, the next you're tripping over something. :oops:

Had more, but because it was still dark, the longer exposure and me not being able to keep the camera still produced some horrible blur. :nope:

As for the average, it depends. Here it's just a few days a year, if at all. Further East (further from the coast) gets more snow. With that first snowfall, we got something like 5 cm, while it reached 40-50cm in the east, particularly north-east saw some heavy snow. I'd say average conditions are 10-15cm per year (probably double further inland), lasting about a week, 2 at most, untill the temperature goes above freezing again. The snow we got today is probably gone tonight, as temperatures should climb to +2C today.
