Can one even see plankton at that level? :hmmm:

Unless, of course, it's http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/ca...x-Plankton.png

Now, what do you mean by match. I said that I wouldn't trade SH3 for anything. On the other hand, the pictures you posted were beautiful. But real? Not even close. SH4 (with the environmental mods) can give water that actually looks like real water (again refer to my shot). I've been commenting for years that the biggest problem with SH4 is that it looks like toy boats in the real ocean.

I disagree with you there, the Atlantic/North sea DOES look like the screenshots from SH3/GWX. I sailed quite a lot on the later and now that grey sky/grey water or the cold sunlight looks perfectly. However you might be right about the pacific area, I saw a movie yesterday that showed that the sunsets and waves there are just like in your screenshot. I guess SH3 could not model that convincingly enough even if it tried.

Playing Operation Monsun atm and as good as the mod is, SH4 itself has clearly problems rendering the North Sea convincingly. It seems those 2 games were tailor-cut for the environments they were supposed to play in.

And to show you that SH4 really is better in rendering the Pacific and to confirm your statement about the realistic pacific:

And to confirm my statement about the more realistic north sea in SH3:

I don't know EXACTLY what the difference is, but I think the water and the sky in SH3 look colder, rougher, less colorful. A sunset like those in the Pacific would surely surprise everyone here. (I envy you for them :88) )

I wasn't criticizing SH3's graphics at all, just defending SH4's from the allegation that they were "cartoonish".

And I agree - SH3 does indeed catch that 'cold' feeling. I just think that with 4 they've come a lot closer to actually looking like a photograp. From the shots so far it looks like SH5 may capture both. I hope it turns out that way when we actually play the game.

You are absolutely right, SH4 does NOT look cartoonish, it simulates a totally different area, weather, ocean and does that very good.

The only thing I don't like with SH4 sea is in the evening & morning, looks too black to me!!:hmmm:

Has nothing to do with screenshots... but on the german ubi forum the devs said there would be a nw video released today...

maybe it would also be good to make this thread sticky so that everyone can get a good idea of Sh5 - you know picturs tell more than thousand words ;)

Yep looks pretty good and it answers a number of questions that have been asked here. I

t's funny though I've got mixed feelings about what I've seen. Yes there are some great lighting effects and the water is looking way better than SH4, but for me some of the effects like the water on the lens detracts from the feeling of being there.

If I was standing in the rain I would not see water droplets unless I walked around with a pane of glass in front of my face. I hope that is an optional view as I don't want that screwing up my screenshots.

I see the algae (green crap), in the underwater shots is still there along with the wavy underwater view, neither of which I liked in SH4.

I also wonder what the little white crosshair in the FP view inside the sub is about. (Where is my weapon select button so I can shoot Bernard?):)

On the plus side it does look like the ships and U-Boat move a little more realistically in the water compared to stock SH4 and the dynamic shadows and light/particle effects look great. It is looking like a pretty good advancement of SH4's graphics engine.

Exactly.

Neither did I. Even movies shot underwater don't look like that.

Agreed - overall it looks fantastic so far.

wow... nice screens and movie THANK YOU UBI ! :yeah:

i dont like the white crosshair, its killing immersion :timeout:

Paajtor 12-04-09 06:52 PM

...but still I would like to have seen a really rough sea in action, in that vid!

*edit - just read somewhere, that blizzards are added...is there any footage of this?
