If I use that randomize function there is no input option in Commander correct? If not I think I'm better off with the JSGME angle, so they can take it out. Otherwise they may change their emblem later and end up with extra days in port. Thanks for the help.

"so they can take it out" is the same whichever way one goes - you either edit Basic.cfg, or you edit Randomised events.cfg. No difference there. The main advantage of the SH3Cmdr approach is that only the one setting is being modified in Basic.cfg. If you bundle up an array of Basic.cfg files to enable via JSGME, then you will be imposing not only the emblems setting, but every other setting that is in that file. How many different versions of Basic.cfg are out there? Even GWX2.1 comes with a number of different versions, so how will you make your mod fully compatible? Or do you intend it only for a small number of users? A lot of work for essentially one simple setting change which may result in the user needing to make many setting changes to compensate. :hmm:

Further, with the SH3Cmdr approach, you can then enable through JSGME any mod that updates Basic.cfg without having to reapply the emblem changes or edit any files - SH3Cmdr will do all that automatically. In other words, add once and forget. Don't want it all the time though? Just add ; to the beginning of the line. Most likely players will be modifying Basic.cfg anyway to replace the other settings that your JSGME mod overwrote. ;)

Alternatively, you can date limit it so that the setting only applies to the months that you generally start your careers, say Sep 1939 or whatever. Come Oct 1939 (or even later Sep 1939), the value automatically reverts back to the stock setting.

But you go with the way you prefer.

I am not starting at sea no matter what I do with this option, plus I saved a game out at sea on patrol. The next day I loaded it up to then find myself back in port again still on patrol though.... :o

Needless to say I am puzzeld ... can anyone advise ?

Thanks.

I never rate threads, and I never look at the ratings. Until you posted that, I had no clue.:sunny:

SH3Cmdr R3.1.1 now available!

OK, I have just released R3.1.1. Broadly:
  • HTML file names for Personnel Files now conform to UNIX standards
For those who like to upload them
  • Crew Manager screen now lists the compartment each crewman is in
    For easier crew tracking/quals awarding
  • Internal code modifications to better support third party added playable boats
This is a collection of code enhancements to better support the playable S-boat, XXIII and anything else that may yet come along. No more bow torpedo room crew showing in the Crew Manager!
  • Medal images now only display in the Crew Manager when they were historically available
This removes the U-boat Badge from the Crew Manager screen prior to 13 Oct 1939, even though SH3Cmdr correctly handles the date internally. Also one or two other minor medal related tweaks.
Downloading and installing
OK, hopefully this will be easy to understand.

IF YOU ARE RUNNING SH3CMDR R3.1 simply use SH3Cmdr's "Updates" feature. It will download a small zip file. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS UNZIP THE CONTENTS OF THE ZIP FILE INTO YOUR \SH3 COMMANDER FOLDER, OVERWRITING the files already there (only two will be updated). Nothing else needs to be done. You don't even need to rollback. And you certainly don't need to reinstall GWX or NYGM config files.

IF YOU ARE RUNNING SH3CMDR R3.0 OR EARLIER you must download the FULL installation to get these improvements. Go to the first page in this thread and follow the instructions. Do not download via SH3Cmdr's "Updates" feature. PLEASE pay particular attention to the instructions if you are a GWX or NYGM user and PLEASE read through this thread before posting that it's all too confusing.

@Everyone, this will the last release, so I'll give my sincere thanks now to all who have supported SH3Cmdr over the last three years. You guys are what made SH3Cmdr what it is today.  And to everyone else, I apologise for the demagnatised fridge magnets and dead canaries.

Now back to JSGME...

It was a spur of the moment thing - I decided and started at 11pm last night and was finished by 2am. Had it tested internationally whilst I slept, and boom!, ready for public consumption in less than 12 hours.

Hallo.
A small problem with SH3Cmdr 3.1. It doesn't show the icon for one of my officers at the crew manager screen. Also, when playing GWX the face of the officer appearing at the icon is not the one the officer has at the control room. Are these two related? Any suggestion of what is going wrong?
Thanks.

Nothing to do with SH3Cmdr. It uses whatever face icons it finds in SH3 plus follows SH3's indexing rules. So...any variations are most likely caused by:

a) applying a mod that modifies the officer face icons
b) editing the crew config file incorrectly. This is the usual cause of such problems - even in GWX - because not everyone understands the connection between various variables in the crew config files (for example, if your officer icon has a hat, the 3D image should have a hat and if your officer icon is dressed in beige, then your 3D uniform should be beige - these connections are usually broken the minute someone edits the default crew config files).

b) is the likely cause of both your problems (if I understand your second statement correctly). Perhaps set an officer face icon through SH3Cmdr to see if that corrects the indexing in game (it might, but it might not either depending on what other values have been changed for the crewman in the crew config files).

Hehe. I'm just impressed that someone has paid that much attention - I've never bothered to compare...I will though next time I run the game.

But yeah, a blame button might be a good idea:
