:DHihi, good luck, Gordon.

Just wait until the time you are fighting a ruthless battle where both sides are taking heavy losses, and you order an air strike on a hill with AT guns, just to have one of the planes shot down and crash into your 76mm Sherman with über-crew.:stare: The odds, oh the odds.

great game but right now I am stuck on one of the russian campaign missions called Libaration, takes place in spring 1944. Kind of a a piss off, I have to attack a german held village, the problem is, I get a platoon of T-34/85s, with another platoon availible halfway through as reinforcements. I also get about 2-3 rifle platoons. I am going up against at least 2 platoons of Tiger IIs probably another two platoons of infantry, with sime Panzer IIIs, IVs and Panthers added in as well. My T-34s can't touch the tigers, and they can't get close enough because as soon as they are detected the tigers take them out with their 88s.

Yeah, i've noticed the game likes to dump virtually impossible odds on top of the player at times. And every now and then, it feels like the AI gets in some annoying cheap shot and takes out your best SPG in one hit.

But I applaud it for the taking the seldom used realism approach these days. Also interesting to note that the game was built on the Il-2 Sturmovik engine, which probably helped to cut costs.

The trick is to gang up on the tigers, not meet them head on in a "fair" fight. Also, location, location, location. Position your tanks behind crests, just peeking over.

This magazine names Theatre of war as one of the best games of 2007:

I will give that a try when I get back to that mission (did a format and forgot to back up my saved data for TOW) I will see what happens but its awful hard to get close to those damn King Tigers, they are moving in a platoon formation so its not like I could just sneak up on them one at a time with 3xT-35/85s. I've been able to knock off a one or two but your massivly out numbered in the scenario, so its not too hard to get knocked off balance once the Panthers come in, and it dosn't help that your troops can do jack against tanks (other than AT grenades which come in handy every now and again but usually fail to penetrate a Tiger's armor). I will see what happens when I make it to that mission again.
