I am just glad they are working on the save game data handling

That means it will now reflect what is really happening in the game from the crew when they sleep and how tired they are and the dive plane's underwater mess up and remembering your at silent running. And also remembering if there are holes in a ship after an attack and if it is sinking or not.

That alone is a big plus.

Plus with reworking the rendering engine no more ocean morphing effect's and haveing to do special things to make sure it dosn't happen.

This patch will fix a lot of woe's in so many way's.

If the rendering engine is being reworked it may mean less of a slow down for lower end PC's that have problems with large and many fire's burning from multiple ship's.

For them to take the time to listen to us and rework things to make the game better over all is just an awsome thing and I can't thank the Dev's and UBIsoft enough for doing it.

If it means buying an add on for the game to pay for the time and expences of doing all of this it is worth it to me seeing they are fixing things we asked for in the first place.

"Dynamic loading of game units has been implemented, considerably improving loading times " does this also mean you can save anytime with contacts around .

The list seems short, but over all this list reflects the changes I hoped to see.
If nothing else, it should cut down on the bandwidth explaining why someone is sinking hundreds of times a day.

Gato Class Sub

Maybe this has been asked, but does anyone else have issues with the Gato class sub when trying to shoot down airplanes? The cowling or siding around the twin 20mm gun blocks the view unless you're shooting straight astern? If you try to shoot to the port or starboard sides the siding blocks your view. Any clues about this guys?

The view blocking on the AA gun is well known. No solution other than let a competant crew member man the gun at critical times.

The fact that UBI is investing money in making substantial improvements to the engine has implications for both the add-on and SH5. Normally a developper will improve an engine for a new game, not an add-on. This leads me to one of two conclusions:

1. the add-on may be more substantial than a mere expansion pack and may contain more than just u-boats and a new indian ocean campaign; or

2. UBI has already given the green light for SH 5.

It's unlikely they will use the same engine for SH5. The developers themselves (of SH4) made comments on how difficulty it was to use the engine. Besides which, it's pretty awful. The code is slow as all stink and it's beginning to get pretty aged. They'll no doubt develop a new engine for SH5, assuming there is one.

I do that now!

Every save I've made has been with contacts all around and I have had no SH3-like problems at all. That is over a hundred saves without a malfunction with contacts aplenty all around. I'm not asking for improvement on that!

And I'll bet on Excalibur Bane being right that the next game will have a much more modular and much better documented approach that will allow for changes and errors to be corrected much easier. I personally can't see anyone considering a next generation subsim for 3 or 4 years. The economic potential of the SH3/SH4 subsim family is nowhere near properly explored and expanded upon. And the increase in computer capability then would make eye-popping improvements more dramatic and appreciated.

Hey Team,

Yippee!!! :dead: I'm still jaded though. The game retails at over 100 Aussie dollars, but I bought it knowing there would be problems. In the hope that UBI would Look after us I waited, because mine would CTD on the second load screen (like most of us I know) it simply became a joke. True I was sooo sick of playing the Dopeman RIPPED version due to its limitations, but at least that one would LOAD!!! (for pete's sake, no wonder ppl download games)

Until the next fix came out I just shelved this exceptional and unique simulator, and continued with SH3.

I doubt I will buy another UBISOFT product. The famed and fabled Assassin's Creed that the company seems to be pitting their reputation on simply does not raise a great deal of confidence for me, not after this. Perhaps the Battle of Britain Storm of War title will be better given that they had several years developing IL2 Sturmovik, which I love.
And - of course not forgetting all of you reverent Modders and Skinners out there who made a huge effort in creating a FLIGHT SIMULATOR from a sows ear, and I thank you for it.

It is unfortunate that I sound like I do - even to me, but I can't help feeling like UBI has rushed the product for the purpose of profiteering. This Simulator is fantastic and in every other way a superb document of history, but the little details wreck it.

:down::down::down:

Anyway... here it is - patch 1.4 "4th patch in 7 months." If not for all you Hunter/Killers out there who tested it for them, who petitioned them, and who created mods to improve the "Acme brand" game for us we wouldn't even have had a 1st patch! I say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. ;)

How about you guys and girls go and apply for a job at UBI, it looks like they need talent. :rotfl:

Great news. Thanks for the update on the progress. If it hadn't been for the email from Subsim, I wouldn't have known another patch was coming out.

I stopped playing, went on to something else. Just waiting around for UBI to finish the game so I can start my campaign career over again.

But as Vorperblad hit on, I'm not going to buy another UBI product until it's about 2 years old and in the bargin bin. Maybe by then they'll have all the programming in and bugs worked out.:yep:

:o

-that is a welcome change with potentially huge impact on gameplay, no longer being a 8km "bubble boy"

Maybe - Maybe NOT!

What's that gonna do to framerates?

Reaves 11-01-07 08:07 PM

I want to know about the water rendering improvements. The less mods I need to have installed the better.

-Sorry modders ;)

A couple of thoughts on this.

1) Please don't mention Warez, warez sites or anything connected with warez, cracks or rips. It is a fast ticket to your account being deleted.

2) How come people alway forget to thank the coders, artists, project managers, designers and all of the other people without whose talent, creativity and passion the modders would have nothing to work with.

3) If you think that all a game needs is for modders to apply for jobs at UbiSoft, why not try this...

Uninstall Sh4

Download TM 1.6.3 (or any mod you like)

Add it to JGME

Run the mod

See how far you get.

On so many levels this post is just wrong.

First it seeks to justify stealing someone else's property on the grounds that his hardware is inadequate to run the software. That establishes his moral high ground.

Then the following mixed metaphor/opaque reasoning paragraph darkly alluding to some "Assasin's Creed" that we are all supposed to know about firmly establishes the logical high ground.

The "evil profiteering" paragraph is laughable. Of course games are published for the purpose of making a profit. Profits are good, not evil! Without them game developers do not get paid for their work. And investors get no return on their investment, so they go elsewhere and finance something else. No profits equals no simulations. But, having established the moral and logical high ground, Vorperblad must be right.:rotfl:

Then our modders are painted as superior to the programmers of the game itself. Hey Mr. Brilliant! (THERE's an unfair characterization for you!) Modders are modders because they love the game and want to improve it! They are modders because Ubi was smart enough to design a game that was designed from the beginning to be modded. Our modders are working WITH Ubisoft, not against them.

Vorperblad's entire worldview is fatally flawed. A post like that might fly in another forum (no actual forum, living or dead, is alluded to and no actual forums were harmed in this post), but here at SUBSIM it is seen for the flotsam it is.
