Shoot, when I was in Iraq with the 1st Infantry back in 2004 I'd hear off-color humor (stuff you'd not want broadcasted on CNN ) all the time on the radio, so it's nothing out of the ordinary nor something that's somehow completely died away. It's just part of serving in a war zone and a way to "let off some excess steam." Thus, as a currently serving solider I find the remarks in the game to fit in quite well.

I like the humorous messages.

I just happen to like a good LOL every once in awhile. Maybe not for everyone, I guess.:p

Complete devotion to service

Sometimes you simply can't convince the crewmen that 'devotion to duty' also includes getting back inside the sub...

In a situation like that you should be at Battle Stations (General Quarters) so it doesn't happen.

Not so John for if "Battle Stations" were called there would have been twice the amount of noise as this is again another bug that may be corrected with the 1.3 patch hopefully. In real life if at "silent running" and the "Boatswains Pipe" and the BMOW's ( Boatswain's Mate On Watch ) loud voice were heard he would be slapped in the brig so fast it would make your head swim. And then written up for Court Marshall ( if he didn't see Davey Jones first :hmm: ). Although in SH4 they call him the WO....oh well.

I've had this same type of scenario where I was being hunted by the "infamous" DD's and with a crew that was in top condition there was no need to call "Battle Stations" as they took care of the boat very well even when that idiot called "Relieve the Watch". But being a bug as far as loudness goes I don't believe in the sim that the AI even hears it at all.

Same here. In '91 when I was there with the 3rd ACR, Baghdad Betty was telling us Bart Simpson was back home boinking our wives.

Hilarity ensued. -:D

PASSING THERMAL LAYER my ass! BLOW THE F*CKING BALLAST! :arrgh!:

Hey, you should THANK the man! That call is sometimes the only warning you get that you're on the way to Davy Jones! -:>

I'm really glad that it worked out that way. I like the audio notification. Sometimes in the heat of battle I would not always think to go and 'check a chart' to see where the layer is. But in a hurry to dive from escorts searching for me, it's cool to suddenly have a crewman point out "hey, we just passed the layer".

Not only do I get a dynamic notification that I can stop diving there, but it's another aspect of the game that makes you feel like your not alone in the sub.

Actually, I thought the thermal layer was to be used as part of your defense against the enemy being able to ping you...didn't real sub commanders use that in WW2?...I have dove up to 80 feet or more past the layer to try to confuse the enemy, as well as zigzag, silent running and launching decoys and not sunk...maybe I was just lucky???? ( I HAVE had the "no damage, but sank anyways " bug occur several times, though)...I personally like the humor ingame  ...if anyone has a mod that adds some more humor, I would like to have a copy (BTW, I am a truck driver IRL, so you can't offend me with any kind of humor unless it's racist, sexist or homophobic)...amazin' ain't it? A liberal minded truck driver!!! An oxymoron if there ever was one!!!

It is. Although I think not quite so much for pinging as passive hydrophone. Maybe the same for both, but not quite sure. Either way, traveling just below the layer will definately make you more difficult to hear/locate as the temperature differential distorts the angle of sound waves (speed travel, actually).

It seems like that there is an entrire team dedicated for spam over radio messages.
What we miss these days with modern games is humor.
5 Thumbs up for the devs...
