That would be almost perfect - but what I want is the Criterion full length EXTENDED edition, that includes even more of the million+ feet of film that they shot. Apparently there are vast reserves of film not even in the "full length" version.

The "Criterion Treatment" would just make this classic film that much better. I don't know if it will ever happen, but one can hope.

The Criterion Collection of DVDs usually include a lot of snazzy extras and digital remastering of the film and sound. It would be absolutely awesome if they did that with the extended version of Das Boot.

Maybe we can get an email campaign together? Here's the address for film suggestions: mulvaney@criterionco.com

EDIT: Ive emailed them and will let you know if I get a response.

Hey, I'd love nothing more than to see this DVD released. I emailed Criterion about this over three years ago. At that time I received a generic script generated response. Hopefully we'll have better luck this time around. I have a decent collection of films by them, and when compared with standard studio releases, well, there's no comparison. They truly do outstanding work, and the technology they employ continually improves.
