Siara, I just stumbled across this thread and I am flabbergasted! The work on your boat and the checkpoint diorama :o You sir are a master craftsman. I can't wait to see what your boat looks like finished :yeah:

Any updates on the U-Boat Siara????

Von Hilde 09-09-10 05:13 AM

excelent work

I wish I had stumbled on this thread before I started my 3rd scratchbuild. Besides the wonderful ideas you have come up with for many of the detailed items, there is an enormous ammount of technical information that has come to light, from all the input and assistance from members of this forum. You deserve the Knights Cross and the sub badge with the diamonds.:salute:

I've just discovered this one as well, superlatives fail me. I think maybe it's the 'giant matchstick' theory that's the right one, i cant imagine being able to physically do this kind of detail on a model, let alone have the patience to do it.

Siara,

What size are those insulators in real or 1:1 scale?
It is hard to judge their size in the photos because of the perspective. I am guessing maybe 8 inches or 20 cm.

I am working on my own 72 scale VIIc and I want to replace the kits versions as well.

Any recent u-boat pix?

Hi Siara, amazing build man, really amazing. :sunny:

Was given a 1:72 VIIC/41 for xmas and have started in on it today. Inspired by this and other builds I've begun by Oil Canning first - my gods that's a long process!

However, in doing so I am losing some rivet detail and earlier in this thread I noted you had the same problem but made a tool to fix same.

Could you or A.N.Other please explain the principle and method behind it.

Ta :D

What's the story with this? Is there a link or something to the finished model? I'd love to see it and drool!!

If you're interested, Archer Fine Transfers and I created a rivet & weld detail set for just this very thing... to replace lost rivets & welds on the 1/72 VIIC kit.

Check it out here:

and go to the "Rivets" section.

Hope this helps. :)

U-BOOT plastic model

Hiiiii

I remember this model, it was wonderful, when I was a child, for my birthday my parents buy me the U-Boot VII - C , the model of Gunter Prien, it was opended and you can see all the machines, the torpedo camera.

Was perfect. Now I have other models, but I'm not make it, not free time for it, maybe into a few years. It's a plastic models and it is eternal.:arrgh!:

I, like many others came across this amazing project quite late. The talent, eye for detail and incredible tenacity of the builder are simply epic. Unfortunately, for reasons known only to the photo depository site, the pics of the last year or so have been deemed forbidden due to some supposed indiscretion.
That aside, has anyone seen or heard anything from Siara since his last post, over a year ago now? He mentioned he was moving back to Poland and was going to be selling off his larger collection items.
I think we can all agree to hope that there is nothing amiss in his life that has caused him to move, dispose of his passion and virtually disappear so suddenly.

Dude I build websites for a living, and would gladly put all these pics into a gallery website if ever you fancied it. This is pure awesome. I'd even host it :)

Unfortunately he hasn't even visited Subsim in more than two years. I would love to see the finished product, but it's looking less and less likely.

I think i found his old blog, not sure if i missed it earlier.

http://u-552.blogspot.ca/

It ended before he was finished there too.

I think it has his email at the bottom if anyone else wants to try to contact him.
