"What "MAGA" really means

The phrase has troubled liberals who think it is a call for a return to an America before civil rights, gay rights, and women's rights. But I have a more generous interpretation, one that is truer to my experience of Donald Trump as he is today. "Make America Great Again" recalls a nation brimming with vitality, with a can-do spirit, with hope and a belief in itself. It was an America that was beginning to confront its darker shadows, could acknowledge the injustice in its past and present, yet at the same time could celebrate its successes. It was a nation of broad prosperity, the world's most vibrant middle class, and a idealistic belief (though not consistently applied) in freedom, justice, and democracy. It was a nation that led the world in innovation, productivity, and technology. And it was the healthiest country in the world. I have talked to many Trump supporters. I have talked with his inner circle. I have talked to the man himself. This is the America they want to restore.

That's fine with me but the reality ends up being bozos like Bobert, and Greene, and Comer, and Gaetz, and Jordon, and Loomer, and Santos, etc.

For a party that claims to be tough patriots, there sure ends up being a lot of whining about how unfair it all is when they don't win, but never fear, Trump knows more about everything than anybody, including losing.

You forgot to add the "Squad" in the bozo category.

There are senior Democrat Congresscritters who believe that islands can capsize if we put too many people on them. Democrats always project their failings on others so whenever you hear one call republicans a name or accuse them of something you can bet your bottom dollar that they fit the bill far more than the objects of their hatred.

Have any sources for that? I doubt it.

"Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is raising some eyebrows with a comment he made about the U.S. territory of Guam during a House Armed Services Committee hearing last Thursday.

In a discussion regarding a planned military buildup on the Pacific island, Johnson expressed some concerns about the plans to Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet.

"My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize," Johnson said."

OK. I'm sure that was a tongue in cheek comment but go ahead and take it to the bank. :haha:

Harris: Raise corporate tax to 28%? It will raise billions in revenue....sigh....

Her logic is that a tax increase is OK because it would raise federal revenue, even though it would make US companies less competitive across the world and would raise prices for Americans because corporations will adjust for this increased cost of doing business? This is the kind of uninformed thinking that people think will make America better? Dems really do think voters are stupid.

Still waiting for any thoughts from Harris on where spending could be cut from the federal budget. The only ideas she's shared call for $1.7 trillion in additional spending. I feel very confident with Harris.....yea, no.

Trump and Harris clash over hot mics during presidential debate as ex-president suggests he might back out

Quote:

Kamala Harris’s campaign is reportedly in a dispute with Donald Trump’s team over whether to keep the candidates’ microphones on throughout the entire presidential debate on September 10 — as the former president suggested on social media Sunday night that he might not debate her at all.

The Harris campaign is pushing to keep the microphones on the entire time, a deviation from the Biden campaign’s initial request.

“Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own,” Brian Fallon, senior adviser for communications for the Harris campaign told Politico.

“We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button,” Fallon added.
But Trump’s campaign has pushed back, insisting that the Harris campaign is trying to change the rules with the hope that Trump will skip out on the debate.

“Enough with the games. We accepted the ABC debate under the exact same terms as the CNN debate,” Jason Miller, a senior adviser for Trump, told Politico.

The disagreement over muted microphones has stirred speculation about whether Trump will follow through on his commitment to debate Harris. Already, Trump seems to be wavering in his decision.

He’s criticized ABC News for hosting the debate, believing the network does not treat him fairly. And on Sunday night, the former president attacked the network over its interview of Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, calling it on Truth Social “ridiculous and biased.”

He then asked, “Why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?”

But on Monday, Trump changed his tune, telling NBC News it “doesn’t matter” if the microphones remain on throughout the debate or off and he would “rather have it probably on.”

ABC News is slated to host the presidential debate in Philadelphia between Harris and Trump. The terms of it were agreed upon before Harris replaced President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket.

Miller said Harris’s campaign had asked to change it to a seated debate, with notes allowed and opening statements — requests they turned down.

“If Kamala Harris isn’t smart enough to repeat the messaging points her handlers want her to memorize, that’s their problem. This seems to be a pattern for the Harris campaign. They won’t allow Harris to do interviews, they won’t allow her to do press conferences, and now they want to give her a cheat-sheet for the debate. My guess is that they’re looking for a way to get out of any debate with President Trump,” Miller claimed.

So far, the September 10 debate is the only one Trump and Harris have agreed to. The former president has suggested adding other debates hosted by NBC News or Fox News.

Now, the back-and-forth over the muted microphone situation has some wondering if the presidential debate will continue.

Muted microphones may have benefitted Trump during his first presidential debate against Biden since he, historically, has interrupted other candidates. During that debate, the muted mic seemed to keep Trump focused, as Biden stumbled over many of his statements.

"Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 presidential campaign is seeking a change to the upcoming ABC News debate with former President Donald Trump, saying the campaign was not involved in the original negotiations when President Joe Biden was still the nominee.

The Harris campaign is demanding that microphones not be muted when the other candidate is speaking, something Trump had agreed to with Biden for two debates.

Both the Harris campaign and Politico have argued that the rules for the September 10 debate were set with the Biden campaign, not the Harris campaign, but she is trying to have it both ways after declaring that the "debate about debates is over." The statement was made after Trump said there should be three debates with Harris instead of two because she was the new nominee. Harris made it clear that she will only participate in two debates.

When asked about the microphone issue on Monday, Trump said, "We agreed to the same rules. I don't know; doesn't matter to me. I'd rather probably have it on. The agreement was that it would be the same as it was last time. In that case, it was muted. I didn't like it the last time, but it worked out fine."
