Yet another newcomer

Good evening (well, it is here).
I am not quite new to submarine simulators, but I still have much to learn about using torpedoes.
I have known about Subsim for a while. It is the best naval site that I know of, and a credit to all who contribute to it.
I am in England. Both my father and my grandfather were in the Royal Navy.
I have a friend who was an engineer on a modern conventional submarine in the Royal Navy.

I have only just acquired Silent Hunter 5. It was very cheap on Amazon. I do not understand how best to use it, just yet. So, in order to really understand it, I am using Silent Hunter 4, and am on patrol around the Solomon Islands.
I have started to follow instructions on how to set up a firing solution. At the moment I am doing my best to understand the A.O.B.
There is no shortage of help. The manual is actually useful, and there is plenty of help to be found on this website.
The graphics in version 5 are nice, but the simulation does not feel complete, compared to earlier versions. Perhaps I will find mods to help with this.

My health is poor, and so I find it a struggle.
The submarine simulation is interesting, but I am fully aware of the horror of warfare in WWII. I always have this in my mind. I feel sad for all who took part in the struggle. They all suffered. There is nothing nice about war. So I just try to learn something about it.

Thanks for all the wonderful mods.

Be peace, Cod (a noble fish) :salute:

Another man overboard

Well this is a leap into the unknown...:DL
I've been playing computer games from Chucky Egg on the ZX Spectrum to Crysis 2 on the PC and all the consoles in between. Unfortunately, I'm now slowing down a tad, and have become bored with being whipped by 5 year olds online, so I thought I'd try something a little more taxing on the brain, but less reliant on mouse reactions...
I'm hoping that Silent Hunter will fill the void (I've just purchased 3 & 5) as I've always been drawn to the dark, menacing, yet graceful lethal weapon below the water line. There's something really sinister about submarines - a bit like swimming in shark infested waters; you know there's a threat somewhere, you just can't see it! The flip side is that being in the submarine itself must be just as terrifying as you know that if you're hit, you can pretty much guarantee an oxygen starved death :o
Any tips on getting the most of SH5 would be appreciated as it appears to get a universal pounding for being released without even basic testing.
Cheers - Villagegossip (from United States of Yorkshire)

Hi all.

New SH 5 player here. Call me Phil. Or trekky. Or Korvettenkapitän Naismith if you wish. :arrgh!:

I played Silent Hunter II many many years ago but lost the CD. I didn't buy SH5 until now because of the DRM issues - I haven't got good broadband :P

Looking forward to chatting with you guys. I suspect I'll need lots of help getting these mods installed and working. :)

just got it

Hi Guys,

here we go again....just got SH5 (been using SH3 & SH4).

Finding it nice but difficult to gey into SH4 it is not....but I suppose it will get better with experience.

I'll take this opportunity to thank all the modders out there (hope to join you someday), without you these games would be useless.

Com1 :yeah:
