I've been struggling to figure out what and where to post my problem. I guess this is as good as place as any.

I can't explain my problem without turning it into some long story, so let me skip that and get down to what I want to do.

I'm going to reinstall everything including GW1.1a, Commander 2.6 and skinpack, and weather mod.

I'd like to keep saves if possible so I can start where I last left off in port. Remind me of what I need to save.

I believe I need to save the SH3 folder in "My documents" and the .ini file in Commander. Anything else like Tutorial stuff so I don't have to train again?

I guess this isn't the right thread, but since all my problems started after using 2.6, it's here for now.

P.S. I'm not blaming 2.6. I'm sure it was something else.

Well I finally got it all installed and running again. whew

I had one hickup which I got a little lucky I think.

When I installed Commander again. It wouldn't recognize my existing player but I typed in his name again as a new player with the existing time, boat etc. I put my options back as b4 and now it recognizes him as the existing I guess.

All I know is I'm playing again in my latest patrol.

Is it possible to use the Malfunction/Sabotage random events .cfg files for the type IIs? I did not see any references for the type IIs other than randomize crush depth.....

Herazio 07-12-06 07:38 PM

This might be a very dumb question. But I've been wondering for quite some time what SH3 Commander is. I've heard a lot of fuss about this mod and now I really actually wonder what it does :P. Cause I haven't found anything on that yet. Anyhow I'm sorry if I maybe didn't read the text correcty.

Bryan,

Ps:. Thank you all for being such a great community !

Sorry, but as of right now the type II's haven't been completed yet. My emphasis was on the more popular, larger boats. The next version of Sabotage/Malfunctions should have the type II's included. It will simply be a cut and paste affair into Randomized events.CFG

Thanks:up:

Yes,thats what I was thinking : with 2.6, could we do a copy/paste and just use a different path for the type IIs?

Would it work?

Go to: http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html
and click on 'SH3 Commander - View documentation' and read all about it. Also a couple of good screenshots to see.
IMHO, It is the best add-on going for SH3, even if you are just starting out and running a vanilla (unmodded) version of the sim.

Hi!

Does anyone know if HT standalone 1.47 works with SH3C 2.6? And does the two of them work with SH3 world 3.0? I'm thinking that those mods would be a good start?

:hmm:

Commander runs outside the game so it has no problems with any of the Harbor Traffic versions. Don't know anything about World 3.0 but If it's a mod for SHIII there's no reason why the two won't work together.

Unstickied and moved to Mods forum.

Jones asked if we could re-sticky this, so I'll stick it back up there until the replies stop

I've read the discussions prior to release about what was being done with the sabatage portion of 2.6, and I know how to turn it on if I choose, but I'm not real good at understanding all the settings that concern said subject.

I read where sabotage doesn't break anything. Does that mean I can't fix any problems from sabotage? I don't care to go back to the .cfg file again to try to understand unless I have to. Is sabotage permanently crippling? Is there anything I can do about it in patrol or in port during gameplay?

Sorry if I missed the explanation.

Edit: Wish I had seen a link, but I think I found the mods thread. That should cover it I think.

Just a bit of a problem uninstalling SHIII Commander 2.3...... it's not in my Add/Remove Programs. And, nothing listed in Program Files either. What's the best way to uninstall without it listed in these places where the uninstall should be?

Sailor Steve 07-16-06 02:49 PM

Since it works outside the game, I would just do a rollback and then delete the SH3 Commander folder.

But don't listen to me-I'm an idiot when it comes to these things.

Assuming you understand that Commander may or may not choose to issue you a "loaded" file each time you launch the game.
Also, your odds of receiving a loaded file depend on the year and the boat.

There are a number of different files in Sabotage/Malfunctions, they range between minor, serious and major/critical.
Some of the problems you may encounter are minor annoyances a few examples are: Attack scope takes a few extra seconds to clear up. Schnorkel takes a bit longer to extend/retract, Battery range slightly reduced etc. These are examples of problems that can be dealt with and there's no reason to scrub the mission.

On the other hand there are versions of these same files that are borderline or serious such as: Attack scope blurred + Obs scope blurred- both clear up and are fully operational, Schnorkel takes a number of minutes to raise but comes up and is fully operational, Battery range reduced by around 40% but still borderline servicable, Flank speed reduced somewhat but again is borderline.

Some examples of critical problems are: Attack scope stays blurred you must rely on Obs scope and that too takes awhile to clear, Battery range reduced by around 80%, Schnorkel takes effort to raise (1+hour) and is best left in the raised position for the duration. Flak guns jam after a single clip is fired. Flank & full speed settings are greatly reduced etc.
These and other files would likely cause the Captain to order the boat back to base asap.

As for "repairing" the problems yourself-yes and no. Commander has the ability to make a given file valid for the duration of the mission or to allow its value to change each time it is launched. There are certain files which will stay with you for the duration of the mission and others that will resolve themselves upon re-launching. The problem you have is that you can save/exit/re-launch and perhaps "repair" a problem but Commander may give you something far worse to deal with. It's a crap shoot.

I've found that the "critical" files are seldom seen but they are out there.

The Sabotage/Malfunctions files do not "Break" any current mod in use, however should you interrupt the crash dive sequence you will nullify the anti-hummingbird effect of NYGM(if your running NYGM). There are numerous posts about this elsewhere.

Hope this helps.

Did you originally d/l and install the .7z version of SH3Cmdr R2.3? If so, you won't have an entry in the Add/Remove list. An entry only appears when you install using the installer version.

If you originally d/l the .7z version and unzipped it to your harddrive, all you need to do is, as Sailor Steve stated, rollback SH3Cmdr then manually delete the folder you installed it into (but keeping SH3Cmdr.ini if you want to retain your Commander history data).

You can then install the latest version over the top.

Nope, not at all.

Rilder 07-17-06 07:30 AM

hmm then i wonder whats causing this... the only other modding ive done at all is some tweaking with the renown settings ( how much you get for completing a patrol and all that)

gabeeg 07-17-06 12:43 PM

Thats interesting...I am no longer getting the ship spotted message either since installing R2.6. Just noticed this yesterday....twice ships just show up causing me momentary panic :) Happened a few times previously (after installing 2.6 but did not worry about it till yesterday. It is not a big deal...until it causes me to be sunk :)
